Don't get me wrong. I love America. But this bugs me about us. Are we so shallow and image-oriented in our culture that we couldn't handle the idea of a president without a full head of hair? Why is hair so important? In the age of television, could FDR have maintained a presidency from a wheelchair, even? I think we're a bit on the shallow side. This is something we should fix.
I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Charisma covers a multitude of physical flaws. That's why there are ugly sex symbols like Mick Jagger, fat ones like Barry White, and short ones like Prince. Hell, Sean Connery is old and bald, and he's still a sex symbol. People respond to charisma. You get a bald guy up there with the right charisma and presence and the people will vote for him. Jesse Ventura would have no problem getting elected if his views didn't alienate people. His appearance would be a non-factor. This is also why I don't think Chris Christie's weight would hurt him in a presidential race. He's got charisma to burn.
