I post frequently on the subject of climate change and some individuals describe the believers as members of a cult, church, or religion. Have they ever looked at themselves in the mirror and thought that maybe it is I that belong to a cult of climate science denial? I doubt it. Is it a hoax or a fraud? I think that the denial of anthropogenic climate change is much closer to a cult or religion than the acceptance of AGW. I have found that most, close to 100%, of CC deniers/ "skeptics" readily accept the propaganda that they read or hear coming from right wing sources. It is evident on this forum and it is evident on other forums that I post on. In one particular forum, "The Politics Forum", there is virtually unanimous agreement that climate change is a hoax, a scam, and pseudoscience perpetrated by greedy scientists and left-wing activists/politicians with the intent of creating a false crisis in order to extract higher taxes and grow government. The person who runs that forum has called climate change a Trojan horse designed to promote socialism. None of these climate deniers seem to have any interest in the science or seem to know anything about the science, but they are all certain that they are right. There is no particular leader of this anti-climate science phenomenon so it would not be fair to call it a cult. I would call it indoctrination. These people have been indoctrinated to believe something that is consistent with their political beliefs and they can't accept the science because then they would have to admit that their side is wrong and that the leftist Democrats are right. That would be too painful to accept. The unconscious mind is probably at work here. Climate scientists have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that humans are warming the surface of the planet. They have established with a high likelihood that all of the warming past 1950 is human caused and that we are on a path towards catastrophic climate change. One has to spend the time studying the science, primarily from mainstream scientific sources, in order to understand why this is true. This requires an open mind, much time, and probably an above average level of intelligence and a good background in science. Too many individuals start out by consulting only the climate denial sources instead of the mainstream sources and become convinced that the mainstream sources are pushing a false narrative. I have noticed on this forum as well as other forums that it is very common for someone to thank another person for posting something that is false but is in agreement with their political beliefs. They don't ever bother to consider that the post may be pure nonsense. They just want to keep on believing what they always believed. If I come along and debunk that nonsense, no one ever admits to being wrong. These individuals cannot be persuaded by facts and logic but they consider themselves to be intellectually superior, scoff a t climate change, and remain ignorant.
