For most Southerners it's just a part of being southern, like grits, gravy, and fried chicken, with no more weight given to it than that.
See.... I was going along with you until you went straight to crazyville. Whatever was imaginary about the Union army, for example. And when Sherman death marched his way across GA are you still proud of that? Do you imagine that those atrocities never happened? So when you say "racist white people", who are you referring to here? And when you say "imaginary boogymen", you're clearly not recognizing the real ones. It's like you love racism, you're just afraid to admit it or something.
and yet the right tells us the Statues mean we will never forget, seems to me the statues were an attempt to rewrite history
isn't that why they are changing it the Confederates lost, time for us to resign them to the history books and museums, not honor them on state house lawns and by flying their flag that said, if people want to worship the flag on their own property, have at it "Mississippi governor signs bill changing state’s flag, abandoning Confederate symbol" https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...7df152-baed-11ea-8cf5-9c1b8d7f84c6_story.html "Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) signed a bill Tuesday abandoning the state’s flag and stripping the Confederate battle flag symbol from it, capping a remarkable turnaround on a banner that had flown over the state for more than a century. "
See, this is the problem. Do you consider someone that displays the Confederate battle flag as evil as a Nazi? And do you consider folks from Mississippi living under a Nazi like regime?
many see someone as honoring what the Confederate did that wave the flag, I think even most republicans don't support the Confederate flag anymore
This is very wrong. The death of millions through industrial murder is not to be compared to the injustice suffered by black Americans and I think this is where the comparison is an insult to a lot of people.
if I wave a Nazi flag, it means i support what they did. the Confederacy fought to protect and maintain white supremacy, and thats what their flag represents
thats your opinion. I as a Jew, who have relatives who were murdered by the Nazis, see nothing wrong with comparing the KKK-filled Jim Crow South with the Nazi regime
I don't support it either, but a person has a right to own or display one without fear of repercussions.
if you have a nazi flag waving on your house, be prepared to get yelled at. freedom of speech is a two-way road
Some could say bravery in battle is represented. Some say "look at me born southern". Do you decide what someone else sees when they look at the flag?
