I've been noticing that the belief that the NSA was right or not to spy on Americans is not splitting along liberal/conservative lines. So I would like to know not only if you think the NSA has the right to to spy on Americans, but also what is your political leaning.

Oh, I'm a liberal and I think it is wrong for the NSA to spy on Americans.

I've seen polls that show that most conservatives supported it under Bush, but oppose it under Obama. The same polls show the same for democrats, they opposed it under Bush but favor it under Obama.

What can you say, people are partisan lemmings.

It is shocking that there is an organization that's spying on Americans. Is it difficult to determine who might be a terrorist and who is a simple man. Why spy on everyone?

What is so shocking about it? Collectivism takes control by keeping us "safe". The government has already said that a few terrorist plots have been thwarted due to the NSA spying. The question becomes, is it worth it? If they put cameras on our every move then they probably could have stopped the bombings in Boston, so why not do it?

Collectivism works by taking our freedoms away for the greater "good". This means instituting a police state to try and fight terrorism, it means taking our freedom of choice away for health care to help more people, it means taking your right away to drink biggie sodas so that it will help reduce health care costs etc. In fact, there is really no end to this until the populace rises up and puts an end to it all in the name of personal freedom. For you see, in the mind of a collectivist, personal freedom is the greatest threat to, not only the human race, but the entire world as we produce carbon emissions simply by our very existence. In fact, the best way to keep the world safe would be to lock us all up in a prison, or exterminate us.

It's unfortunate the poll doesn't have an option for non-partisans.. As long as people remain slaves to their thought templates, big government can continue to grow larger by keeping the majority of voters supporting fascists on either one side or the other.

Regarding this comment, it is important for the readers to understand that these institutions, especially the CIA, DoD, White House and of course the NSA, have lied through their teeth continuously, about anything and everything, including of course the surveillance programs.

So their claim that they have thwarted plots is of course, baseless crap. Especially since they offer zero proof, like usual.

In fact, without the program, they had plenty enough information to intervene before the marathon attack. They didn't. They didn't act on the information they have.

It's not about keeping anyone safe. Well actually, it's about them keeping their own asses safe.

Don't believe the lies. It was the same nonsense as the torture.. They lied through their teeth about it. They denied it for years. It was only after they were caught, they justified it with unsubstantiated crap about how they saved American lives, of course without offering the evidence.

These leaders, including General Keith Alexander went up in front of congress and claimed they didn't do the spying, and didn't have the authority or the ability to eavesdrop on Americans.

    They committed perjury.

But we're supposed to believe they kept us safe, while they offer zero evidence? As if!

Is there anything in their mandate that allows them to spy on American citizens?

I don't feel this is the usual left/right argument, more so along the lines of authoritarian vs libertarian.

I didn't realize the only ideologies in existence on this forum were conservative and liberal. Way to basically prevent all the libertarians, socialists, etc. from answering.

The Patriot Act and NDAA all-but gut the 4th amendment - we no longer have any protection against the government swooping in and taking our property, freedom, and lives. Push comes to shove, that's what those disgusting pieces of legislation do.

That said, all of our government institutions are largely populated by leftists/liberals/progressives who are determined to use government force to mete out justice as they see it - and they're not about to let the rule of law get in their way. Which is how we now have the AG digging into how he can get his hooks into a bloke like George Zimmerman.

As each generation of Amerikans is increasingly dumbed down, and with it more belligerent, those lowly traits are following into our government institutions. Government officials are becoming more obnoxious, police are becoming thugs, and prosecutors and judges are entirely willing to ignore the law and justice.

Of course this path has been travelled many times throughout history. This always ends the same way - in the collapse of the existing society, and the rise of tyranny. Fools never learn.

Exactly so - why I did not respond to the poll, I never let anyone slot me into any of those categories.

    Exactly.

I knew that when Obama was elected, two things would occur: he would continue the war and Gitmo, and the liberals would use the same excuses conservatives used under Bush.
