Israel is to allow the entry of more building materials into the Gaza Strip, officials on both sides said Sunday.

“About 1,000 tons of cement and building materials will enter the Gaza Strip for storm damage restoration and other projects of U.N. agencies,” the Israeli defense ministry said in a statement.

Last month a fierce winter storm hit the Palestinian enclave, with strong winds and heavy flooding causing damage to homes and infrastructure.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which cares for Palestinian refugees, said it had been given the go-ahead for new construction but said the work was unrelated to storm repairs.

“Israel informed UNRWA that it approved the entry of construction materials for six new projects in Gaza,” agency spokesman Ahmad Abu Hassna told AFP, adding that they were for a residential neighborhood and five schools.

Delivery was expected during the coming week.

Delivery was expected during the coming week.

But Raed Fatuh, the Palestinian Authority official in charge of the entry of goods into Gaza, said “the Palestinian side has not been officially informed about this”.

Israel in October reinstated an on-off ban on construction materials for Gaza, after troops discovered a sophisticated tunnel running under the Israel-Gaza border, built with the alleged aim of perpetrating Palestinian militant attacks.

In December it said it would allow renewed shipments but only for use in U.N. projects.

The import of steel and cement for private use has been banned, except for a brief interlude, since the Islamist group Hamas seized power in Gaza in 2007 for fear it would use such materials to build tunnels and fortify its fighters’ positions.

The territory has been under an Israeli blockade since 2006, when Gaza militants snatched an Israeli soldier who was released in a prisoner swap deal in 2011.

The blockade was tightened in 2007 after Hamas seized control, but eased considerably in recent years, following successive waves of international pressure.

The Gazans are under belligerent, illegal occupation. They have every right to defend themselves against their occupier.

The terrorist entity is not under occupation, but under very humane blockade.

Humane? According to whom, the Israelis? Not according to the United Nations:

But then Israel doesn't care about the UN-until, of course, it needs to go whining to them over some perceived Palestinian infraction. Then the UN can do no wrong...

What authority did Israel have to block the shipment of goods to Gaza to begin with?

Israel has been in a constant state of war with Gaza since day one as the blockade of Gaza and limiting free trade to Gaza is an act of war under international law. Israel is perpetuating a war with the Palestinians and then are shocked that the Palestinians would resort to acts of retalliation because of the Israeli acts of war. According to Israel the Palestinians don't have a Right of Self Defense against acts of aggression by Israel.

The Zionist Jews have always been the aggressors in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The non-Jewish population in "Palestine" have always been fighting a defensive war against acts of aggression by Zionist Jews going as far back as 1922.

Nonsense, complete rubbish and distrotion of historic facts, the Palestinians only offered peace in the late 80's. Hamas never stopped fighting and never offered peace, they fought before the blockade and will continue after the blockade.

When the Palestinians accept UN resolutions so will Israel, to expect just one side to follow it is naive.

Every Palestinian has suffered some loss at the hands of the Zionists.

They have lost land, olive groves, homes and loved ones. Remember that the European Jews were refugees and those from Eastern Europe were Bolshevik revolutionaries, not Zionists.

The Jews suffered ten times more by the hands of Arabs during the Jewish Nakba.
850000 to 1000000 Jews were expelled from their houses in Arab countries between 1948 - 1973.
First return ALL their lost land, olive groves, homes and loved ones, then start talking about the Palestinian wall of lies.

The Arab Jews would still be living in the Arab world if not for the abuses of the European Zionists.. You really need to face facts and take some ownership of the conflict and hardship you have created.

Do you live in Israel or elsewhere?

It seems to me that Israel allowing construction materials for the Palestinians is a good thing. It is only under UN supervision to ensure that it benefits the Palestinian people and society rather than the Hamas militaristic/terrorist efforts.

They were all revolutionary Bolsheviks from Eastern Europe and Russia.

Western European Jews were well integrated, successful and had NO interest in Zionism until the rise of the 3rd Reich.

What is your point? The USSR never encouraged and never permitted mass immigration of jews to Palestine.

Are you of the belief that Zionism is a Jewish state or nation such as Israel?
