It is Indeed, Our Government That Makes America Great

I voted for and served under Reagan, who I think was great on foreign policy, below average on domestic policy but pretty good over-all. He was famous for saying things like "Government is not the solution, it's the problem."
That being said, of course government isn't ALWAYS the solution! And yes, government is often the problem! However, today's ConservaRepubs have been brainwashed into thinking that ANY government is bad government and ALL problems are the result of government. Both extremes are equally untrue.



In many ways, our government is just plain screwed up. There's no getting around it. It's also VERY wasteful and duplicative.
But it our government that makes the USA great!
It's not Big Business. Big Business is everywhere. Is Sudan great? Big Business is there. So while Big Business is not to blame for our problems, it is not what makes us great either.
It's not our military. Our military is great. It's what we're best at. We have been at war or in some kind of conflict for almost 200 of our 240 years. It's the solution we have always tended to jump to most quickly but hopefully that will change - and it's not what makes us great.
It is not our right to bear arms - although that right does symbolize something very important, the right to stand up to a tyrannical government (which we don't have). Lots of countries have people carrying guns around. Rwanda is not great.
What makes us great is that despite the shortcomings of our government, when it works, it works well for everyone.
Big Business can make a reasonable profit.
Small, New and Medium businesses can make a profit and have a chance to grow.
Most workers have a pretty level playing field, when it comes to promotions and such.
Most of our factories, offices, farms, mines and so on are very safe - especially when compared to other countries.
We have so much more freedom than is understood or appreciated by those who have only ever lived in the USA.
Most of our country is safe.
Our food is extraordinarily safe, considering how much volume and variety is involved.
Our water is usually very safe.
We can openly criticize anyone in our government without fear.
We can even sue police or government officials.
We can say "Jesus Saves!" or "Jesus Sucks!" safely.
All that has to do with the amazing thing that has become American Government.
I hope our government starts working again soon.

I hope our Congress quits trying to prove they are true to some BS ideals by putting their party before their country.
That's ALL it would take for us to be as great as we've ever been.

 

Who are these people, and what is the basis by which you jumped to, er, made this conclusion?

 

Well if you feel that overall, our government is not only a good thing but a GREAT thing, then I am not referring to you! But believe or not, there are people who call government employees "takers" and have a completely dichotomous view on the subject.
