A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . . I feel so old!

If you're an antique person like me, or not so antique yet, you probably remember the 1992 election, and how GHW Bush lost due in no small part to the phrase "It's the economy, stupid." I don't even remember what the Bush platform was about, but it wasn't about our standard of living, which is why the Clinton campaign used it as a slogan and won. (Yes, I know there were other factors, but don't tell me that phrase didn't have a big impact.)

This election, change just the one word, and the Democrats could nail the coffin shut on the GOP for the next four years and likely beyond, at least as far as congress goes.

This is about not thinking about the possible consequences of our actions, such as the anti choice contingent and their decades long agenda to get ultra conservative SCOTUS judges installed and having them overturn Roe. The dog has caught the car, so now what?

Turning the matter back over to each state has accomplished two big things (notwithstanding many little uh-ohs):

1. Chaos has ensued. Women died because doctors could not treat them. The batshit crazies on the far right have come up with all manner of laws designed to prevent women from obtaining abortions. My favorite nincompoop idea was when Alabama declared that frozen embryos are children. Wasn't that fun?
2. More women are registering to vote. Draconian bans like the six week limit just enacted in Florida are going on ballots in red states and guess who is winning? It turns out that even conservative women abhor the idea of the government, consisting mostly of men, having legal authority over their bodies. Who knew? (Certainly not the anti choicers.)

Yes, the economy is on our minds. When is it not? But this issue is not only swaying existing voters, it generating new ones. I think the House is going to go D, and there's a decent chance that the Senate will, too. What do you think?

The polls indicate Trump did better on the economy. Inflation is hurting people.

He only finished part of the wall before Biden foolishly killed it. The numbers coming across the border are orders of magnitude higher along with terrorists.

They are from nearly every country on the face of the earth including a large number from China.

Well written post. The overturning of RvW was a giant step BACKWARDS. It was not just a "conservative" move, it involved religion. (one of them) The issue of abortion should be between the patient , her partner if there is one, and the medical advisor. As the courts which decided tis overturn, were influenced by on religion due to the membership. People with certain beliefs do not have to have an abortion. But they don't have the right to control how others decide by making up laws that do not work for everyone. The fact that mostly MEN are making these decisions, ....makes a total mockery of the situation. You can bet that if men could get pregnant........there would hardly be any discussion about how abortion is handled. This is suppressing women.......who have barely surfaced from under the male dominated society......and stated to gain an independent voice and freedom to make independent decisions. What better way to CONTROL women than to control her reproductive organs. It makes a mockery of the word "freedom" and "gender equality" as it applies to this country. The xtreme and fanatical right is all about CONTOL. and domination.......
Trump created the situation for RW to be over turned. He for his own sELFISH reasons put a stop to the bill that would have started to address the border problems.
Yet the RW blame Biden for everything.
America is on a tipping point and depending on what happens in Nov.. we will see which way it will go.
