That is clearly accurate, but I suspect their realistic expectation that a court is highly unlikely to uphold their subpoena also played a part.
Thwarting justice by running out the clock is a VERY bad precedent. Now it's in the DOJ's hands. Thank you, Republicans and Orange Stain supporters.

It was an election ploy and that's all it was. The subpoena was issued in October, just in time for the elections, and abandoned now that the elections are over. They had TWO YEARS to get Trump in front of them if they wanted to and chose to wait until the last minute, just before the election. This whole damned committee was election day fodder and nothing more. The sad part is that the ploy seems to have worked rather well.

It's been in the DOJ's hands since it happened. Where are their subpoenas for Trump? In which trial was he name a conspirator or a co-conspirator? What evidence did any prosecutor present that he was involved in the planning and conduct of what happened on Jan 6?
Pure conjecture, they've had months to do something about it. The fact is they were trying to force him to testify against himself or to declare him guilty for taking his 5th amendment rights. This is all about political show.
They did effectively the same thing in 2020 with their "Trump killed a billion people with COVID" messaging and the morons in the GOP establishment just nodded their heads and went along with the Democrats just as they have for the past 60 years.

This isn't "thwarting justice". Justice went out the door the minute Pelosi rejected certain Republicans as members of the select committee.

About half the GOP voter base actually leans Democrat because they fear backlash. This has gone on a LONG time but was prevalent in the 1964 election, the 1976 election, the 1996 election, the 2008 election and, most recently, the 2020 election. In all of those you saw liberal minded Republicans turn to the Democrat because they feared the opposition from Democrats to Goldwater, Nixon (with Ford seen as a proxy for Nixon), the Clinton impeachment (even Republicans in congress turned away due to that), Palin (because she was seen as stronger than McCain) and then Trump. The LAST thing establishment Republicans want is LESS federal powers and MORE state and individual say in the way federal policy is conducted.

Funny that the Congress can find crimes and make their accusations but the DOJ can't? The committee didn't find anything earth shattering or that we didn't already know that had any bearing on anything. So why is the DOJ dragging their feet didn't they know all this already? If not why didn't they? As I said doesn't this show some incompetence on behalf of the DOJ and FBI officials in charge that they had not come up with these alleged crimes and have Trump under prosecution if not in jail if true? This was the BIGGEST investigation in their history and a pretty simple matter of what happened.
They don't need Trump for complete their final report. Trump was given an opportunity to give it's own view, but refused. So when the report says something nasty about him, than it's just his own fault for not taking charge of things.
