This link is not paywalled, at least it wasn't when I clicked on it.

The Ds are finally playing hardball against the Rs, siding with idiot Gaetz to destroy the Rs ability to even choose a speaker of their own party.

What a joke the R party has become, having been touched by Trump.

Jim Jordan and Jim Comer, what a couple of pathetic see you next Tuesday sort of characters.

This guy Mike Lawler repping the Rs from Hudson Valley hasn't been paying attention to his party it seems when he asserts that since the Rs are the majority party, they need to have an R speaker. Doesn't do much good when the slim majority can't stick together, does it?

And sweetie Matt Gaetz, surely I cannot be alone in seeing his resemblance to Butt-head. I reckon maybe Jim Jordan is the perfect Beavis for him.

The Dems are playing pure politics. The overwhelming majority of the republicans voted for Jordan. However, the democrats will vote against whoever the republicans select which means that the Republicans must cannot lose more than six votes.

At this time when the house needs to be passing a budget and assistance to Israel, the Dems choose to put politics above country. Just seven Dems putting country first would solve this problem.

Also, at this time we have a major border problem. It is not a matter of whether the terrorists will take advantage of our open border. It is just a matter of time.

    SHAME. SHAME. SHAME.

That party is on the fast track to extinction, that much is obvious.

Blame it on the Dems! Of course. What a pathetic excuse for a political party that they cannot hold the line among their own.

What democrat forced the vote and brought it to the floor?
What republican ever voted for Pelosi?
How about any other Dem speaker?

Why is it republicans and supporters never ever take responsibility for anything they mess up?

The Republicans are overwhelmingly voting to select the speaker. The democrats, however, choose to vote in mass against whoever Republicans select based on pure politics.

The speaker will never be a democrat because they are the minority party, but they choose to make sure the republicans look as bad as possible in this very critical time.

I blame the Republicans, but I blame the Democrats more.

Of course you do! Because that is how rubes roll. They do what they are told. Never mind the fact that each party votes for speaker and that the opposing party (the minority party) has no obligation to vote for them. Like another poster said, how many times have the Repubs voted for Nancy?

Why should Democrats have to vote for a republicans when they have their own leader?

Democrats have 212 votes compared to the 124 votes that Republicans had. So you are really trying to say that this is because of democrats whose speaker has the majority of votes because they won’t give y’all want you want?

    :roflol:

The only sad thing here is that this type of logic absolutely works for you people.

    Simple question for the democrats.

Would the country be better off with a speaker which
How many times were we in a crisis situation which required the republicans votes?
    Simple question for the democrats.

What do you think would be best for the country at this time? Elect Jordon or some other republican as speaker or continue on like we are where we need a functioning house of representatives? Put politics aside for the moment.

You have to be freaking joking if you think a Democrat is going to vote for Jordan. Why can't you guys have any reasonable people rather than bomb-throwers like Jordan? These are the morons you voted to represent you. It truly baffles the mind the twists and contortions you guys make in upholding your religious fealty to Trumpism and then turning around and attempt to blame Democrats for your own incompetence. It is truly mind-boggling.

That is precisely what I am talking about. The democrats are more interested in politics than this country.

In these times with so many critical issues hanging in balance, such attitudes should be put aside for the good of the country.

The democrats has no reason to not make the republicans look as bad as possible.
    Who cares who you blame.
This would not be an issue if the republicans didn't bring this up for a vote in the 1st place.

And if 5 republicans defect so to speak, doubtful, a dem speaker could be elected.

Typical of the R party and supporters. Place blame on others and never take responsibility for any mess they create.

Tell the republicans to put up someone for a vote that is acceptable to both parties.
Instead of the trump supporting anti democracy cult members that tried to end democratic processes.

So, you don't know of a single R that ever voted for Pelosi or any other dem speaker?

If you think this is a danger to the country, and the R are responsible, why continue to support such a dangerous party?

The shame is squarely on your Rs. The Ds are finally playing hardball against your disorganized team. They will accept, only defectors from the Rs to allow the House to function under Jeffries. If you actually think for a moment that any D should support Jim Jordan then you have lost your mind. Let the 126 Rs that voted to keep the government open side with the only patriots in the House. Too long the Ds have played ball with the feckless Rs and the shambles we see in the House is squarely on those that voted with Ds to remove their own Speaker. As will be the now inevitable government shutdown. All on the Rs, led by Matt Gaetz.

All the democrat responses confirm what I said. Democrats are more interested in politics than their country.

Democrats would rather the government shut down with no pay for our servicemen than vote for Jordon. Would rather not help Israel if it means they have to vote for Jordon. Would rather jeopardize our country with terrorists coming across our border than vote for Jordon.

By the way, I feel the same way about the republicans who refuse to vote for Jordon.

Ds aren't looking for your support. Fascinating that you are on-board with Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House. And you blame the Ds for his inability to gain the position? Seems ridiculous to me, that you would waste your time complaining of the actions of the party you so clearly do not support, whilst your own party was the cause of the entire affair. What was it Jesus said about worrying about a small splinter in the eye of your neighbor whilst having a 2x4 in your own?
