After everything she did for France, they betrayed her and let her be burned at the stake.

The French should still be ashamed of that.

She was a lesbian. I can't back that up. That doesn't make it false. Many would burn her today for the same reason.

Are you saying that's why they did it after they accepted her victory on their behalf? All the more reason they should be ashamed.

That is my suspicion. And yes, through today's prysim, all the more despicable, but through that relatively primitive culture's view understandable.

And still the Catholic Church canonized her. Of course what could they do since God was speaking directly to her? Also, Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 only applies to men.

Regardless, they accepted her leadership and victory. It should still be a national embarrassment to them.

The French citizens of today had nothing to do with it. It seems rather pointless and silly to blame them for something they didn't even have a hand in.

It should be considered a shameful part of their history.

Whether it is or isn't doesn't really make a difference.

I've seen two movies on her. Neither one acted as if the French were awfully proud of the way she was treated. I got the impression the government was afraid she would overthrow them next and I can understand that fear, though I agree with you their action was still scurrilous in the extreme.

I have to doubt she was a lesbian. Joan was almost certainly real in her religious beliefs and they would probably preclude that. Also, I've never heard of her having any women around who would make likely lovers. OTOH I don't know that much about her.

We can only speculate that she was a lesbian. The fact is, any woman who is not interested in sex or having babies is considered a lesbian even today.

As a restitution, the Vatican did canonize Joan a Saint but it took them 500 years to do so.
