(*)Julia Pierson has resigned as head of the U.S. Secret Service, in the wake of a serious security breach at the White House. Here is the statement from Jeh Johnson, the head of Homeland Security.

STATEMENT BY SECRETARY JOHNSON ABOUT THE U.S. SECRET SERVICE

Today Julia Pierson, the Director of the United States Secret Service, offered her resignation, and I accepted it. I salute her 30 years of distinguished service to the Secret Service and the Nation.

As an interim Acting Director of the Secret Service, I am appointing Joseph Clancy, formerly Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division of the Secret Service. Mr. Clancy retired from the Secret Service in 2011. I appreciate his willingness to leave his position in the private sector on very short notice and return to public service for a period.

Today, I have also asked the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, aided by this Department’s General Counsel, to assume control and direction of the ongoing inquiry by the Secret Service of the fence jumping incident at the White House on September 19. (*)Deputy Secretary Mayorkas should complete that review and submit findings to me by November 1, 2014.

It's all coming unraveled in the White House. No one wants the job of protecting the president it seems.

No kidding, that's a tough job! I know I wouldn't want that job.

But the replacement is part of the Presidential protection detail. Wasn't that the branch of the Secret Service that messed up? Maybe? Geez, I hope not! I'm probably reading too much into it...

Pierson was caught in a bold face lie while testifying in the congressional hearing. Elijah Cummings said he didn't sleep well after that hearing. She will retire with a full pension and benefits. Nice.

Good. She took the best way out.

I know this sounds anti women, but good lord, put a man in that position again. How many champion chess masters are female? How many women have made major discoveries in physics? Women are better at some things, men better at others. I think that is a fact, in this politically correct climate.

The problem with the Obama appointees is they don't tend to business, they constantly politic-politic-ppolitic.

Holy Crudinsky! They actually had to go back to a retired fellow who hasn't been active Secret Service since 2011 in order to find someone qualified to function in the capacity of interim Director of the Secret Service? Wow! Things must really be mucked up inside that once sterling organization. How did the Obama administration let things get to that state of affairs in the first place?

The typical precedent lately is driving out anyone competent and replacing them with a crony.
Or maybe moral is just so low they don't care anymore.

It was probably Political Correctness that deep-sixed the Secret Service. My understanding is that during yesterday's hearing the woman was nattering on about the culture of behavior or perspectives and this and that leftwing PC nonsense rather than discussing fields of fire and shoot/don't shoot orders.

Ha! Yes well it's definitely tempting to take that as a possibility, but I think it far more likely that with Politically Correct this and that having been rammed down their throats they got to where it was almost impossible to know anymore when it was Politically INCORRECT to act versus when it was the intelligent thing to squeeze off a round.

After all if you fail to squeeze off a round when you should have done then your charge may be killed but you can at least retire with a full pension -- perhaps in disgrace, but with a full pension. But if you violate PC you are fired on the spot (well after a kangaroo court trial) and then lose everything. So we have all these highly trained professionals dealing with massively conflicting 'rules'.

    Meh . . . or I could be wrong . . . :icon_jawdrop:

Ahhhh the old flower in the barrel routine. It's been awhile. Your probably spot on.
Take the most stressful job I can imagine with an operating directive created over years by the best in the business learned from mistakes. Add flowers to blender and switch to hi for ten minutes.
Hard to step in front of a bullet when everything you've learned to keep that from happening is made into a sickly sweet potpourri.

Ooooooh . . . very nicely stated! I suspect that sometime after Barack Obama is nothing more than a still raw example of failed presidential history resting side by side with the other raw emotional wound in the nation's psyche called G.W. Bush some sort of weasel-worded report will be quietly released to the effect that yes, there was definitely confusion between fanatical leftwing demands of adherence to Political Correctness versus about 140 years worth of institutional experience and knowledge regarding how the job SHOULD be done.
