This shutdown started under REPUB SINGLE PARTY RULE. Before the shutdown the REPUB Senate sent a budget to the REPUB House only for Rep. Ryan to prevent a vote. THE 1ST THING the Dem House did was pass a budget (the SAME that the REPUB Senate sent to the REPUB House under Rep. Ryan) only for Sen. McConnell to prevent a vote. That is all.
Sure. I am sure Pelosi will be impressed along with her majority caucus. The GOP is seeing more cracks in their ranks in both Houses, than Pelosi is in the House. .
Its too late. Revenue and budget bills start in the House. The senate gets to amend them and send them back for concurrence. The senate can't do squat without House approval on budget bills regardless of how they treat their minority to get them over there.
Yes to get bills through the senate. The House has nothing to do with the nuclear option...they don’t have filibusters there
THE 1ST THING the Dem House did was pass a budget. What more can they do to end this than voting to end this? And it was the REPUB budget mind you. This is 100% on Sen McConnell refusing to hold a vote and President Trump promising to veto anything Congress agrees to.
This isn’t a bill to raise revenue. It’s a bill to spend it. Moreover, even if it were, because something starts in the house doesn’t mean the senate can not create their own after marking up what the house sends and sending it back.
But, in order for a bill to get to The President's Desk it has to pass BOTH Houses. In other words, the GOP Senate would need the House Majority (that would pass their Senate GOP-sponsored legislation) in order to implement the nuclear option on legislation. A Dem House won't pass GOP Senate legislation. The GOP Senate just missed their chance (with the previous Congress). Civics 101.
So what you’re saying is the Dems in the house will never compromise on any legislation. Interesting. Well this certainly sounds like a national emergency
Regardless where the bill starts, it has to pass both houses unless it is a treaty or a confirmation of a high level executive appointment where the Senate can act on its own. Your nuclear option might have worked to get the bill to Ryan's House, but Pelosi has the gavel and the votes now. Elections have consequences, and Trump is feeling it now.
They literally passed the same budget that the Senate sent to the House before the changeover. It's ALREADY passed the Senate which is why Sen. McConnell won't hold a vote. He knows full well the Senate will give this a veto proof vote (becuase they already did) so until Trump gives the greenlight to end the shutdown, no Senate vote will happen.
Nobody feels in the mood to compromise with Trump trying to bully them using this shutdown. Pelosi is not the type to cave to extortion. Trump's next problem after he has convinced Pelosi to 'compromise' is that neither he, nor his buddies are going to like what they hear. If Trump gives Dems what they really want, he's going to lose votes from immigration hardliners.
