Just to clarify: Don't confuse abuse of power with overreaching

I don't know if as the POTUS Trump gained so much personally, whilst the cling for power, he did with all his will to obliterate any obstacles hindering his reelection, but for what?. Did he himself amassed great fortune or is it he do really wanted a change for this great nation. We could look back and see how things did unfold.

Ok so let's go with the Dershowitz doctrine. After all, the guy is a well known Harvard School of Law professor, right?

“If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment” - Professor Alan Dershowitz

    1. So by that statement he's agreeing that his client did indeed perpetrate a "kind of quid pro quo" (better known as extortion or bribery), which his client repeatedly denied since he's not arguing he didn't.

    2. He's also saying that a President can do just about anything he wants to get himself elected because that President "believes it's in the public interest to help get him elected" and certainly not anyone else. The only criteria here is what the President "believes". So if the President is delusional, it doesn't matter as long as the President "believes" it. And of course the President knows exclusively what's in the "public interest" (the Divine Right of Kings anyone?).

    3. He's also not arguing that there are any limitations to the "kind of quid pro quo" being perpetrated because you never know, having his political opponents arrested or even executed might be necessary to win that election which is in the "public interest".

"Everything Hitler did was legal." - Martin Luther King Jr.

That is what Dershowitz is saying right? Isn't Constitution 101 part of the curriculum at the Harvard School of Law or is it Mein Kampf 101?

I'm so confused (not), abuse of power or overreach? To me overreach IS abuse of power. The 10th Amendment prohibits the federal government from asserting powers not specifically granted by the Constitution. There are NO exceptions. Dershowitz needs to go back to grade school where they teach the Bill of Rights, never mind law school. Or maybe I'm such an old fart that I don't know that they don't teach that any more and therefore even attorneys and law professors have no clue and have to make things up on the fly.

The stupidity of GOP "defenders" yesterday hit a new level. Their defense now boils down to a couple of points.
    1. The president can do anything he/she wants as long as he/she believes it is good for the nation - like getting reelected.
    2. We cannot call new witnesses because one witness might create more witnesses and we're just too busy to do all that. I mean we are Senators for god's sake!

Here is where we are Republicans. Like it? I cannot wait to hear from all the Trump crowd here

If Obama didn't give Ukraine anti tank missiles partly because it would hurt him politically should he have been impeached? Get it now?

If ANY President did ANYTHING in violation of the Constitution and/or the Oath of Office (which is effectively the same thing) it would be grounds for at least an impeachment investigation. Impeachment has nothing to do with any political party affiliation.

    Do you?

Yep; made up crap used to impeach a president. It's the same as using the -- known at the time to be crap -- Steele Dossier as an excuse to investigate Trump and company to begin with.

So to be clear you are indeed saying obama should have been impeached for refusing to give Ukraine lethal weapons at least party due to political considerations?

You are inaccurate, as usual. Trump could have fired Mueller at any time and didn't.

Never mind that, Obama should have been impeached and tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity same as his predecessor and successor. And not to mention racketeering and other crimes against the Constitution.
