What a sad story. Jovan Belcher, a Kansis City Chief player killed his girlfriend today then went to the stadium and apologized to his coach then shot and killed himself.

They leave behind a 3 month infant who is with family.

What makes people so distraught or angry in domestic situations to kill the ones they live with or love?

The team was disappointed with their season but no one will know what his real motive was.

Well it is hard on the other players and both families. They have grief counselors available.

I guess the show must go on because the Chiefs will play their next game.

He had everything and yet he is a cold blooded killer and shouldn't of been a coward to shoot himself. A cheap way to get out of being convicted of murder and spending time in the pen.

Many sports players end up in violent domestic situations because their frontal lobe is continuously impacted in the athletic games they play in.

This was a foot ball player and gets that more than many other sports, the frontal lobe is responsible for morality and sensitive feelings, so if it damaged they are more likely to respond violently in domestic conflict situations.

    very unfortunate side effect

Seriously? I know that we hear about domestic violence every now and then but I wish we knew more about this story. He was only 25 yrs. old with all the fame and a daughter.

Do you believe that pressure in young relationships in sports have an effect too?

There are not yet many background facts out yet in the media, although given time I am sure the media will saturate this story and disclose what they feel may have been at the foundation of this violent trajedy.

Obviously it had something to do with the girlfriend. And as Pat Benatar said, love is a battlefield.

Obviously whatever it was amounted to something intensely emotional and discouraging for the NFL star.

Hard to imagine throwing away a million dollar life over some dispute with a girlfriend though.

But emotions are sometimes hard to control.

I'm sure we will find out more later through the media given time.

Religion tries to teach us all to play nice, and not kill each other (infidel defilers perhaps excepted, I guess, by some faith groups).

Not sure how strong religion played a part in this NFL star's life. Maybe not enough.

Could have been almost anything. What if the girlfriend found out he was shooting up steroids and threatened to rat on him?

Whatever it was must have been a big deal for him and involved the girlfriend as well.

    Love is a battlefield.

No but would agree it is harder for younger adults to overcome such relationship adversity, but it is not violent usually unless there are extenuating circumstances, in this case head collisions in sports.

There is science evidence that suggests the frontal brain is responsible for civilized emotional behavior, so people who are exposed to hits there are more likely to have the "killer instinct" .

You may be right, who knows yet. I love football and being a female I am really torn over this although I don't know much about this player.

I am a Seahawks fan and I think we beat them in the pre-season game. Nevertheless, I feel bad for his girlfriend and their baby. What a tragic story to tell your child your mother and father are both dead once she is old enough to understand she lost her parents. It will be hard if the family tells her the truth which could mess her up if she is a teen, for sure.

Thanks for that information, LM. It makes some sense to me but murder is always hard for me to understand. I guess if they brain isn't right, I shouldn't fault him but who knows?

I read an FBI crime manual that said most murders are between people who know each other. You would think most are committed by strangers, but they are not.

Thus most murders are acts of rage. Rage is triggered when a particular expectation has not been met, such as faithfulness, or what not.

I am more amazed at the people who do NOT murder someone with every reason for doing so, such as Petraeus's wife or Spitzer's wife. Must be really painful to have a spouse or lover who cheats on you.

Yes, but cheating on your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend etc, is not normal to just murder them. Yes, some feel rage, others just leave.

In this case we don't know. I am going to see if there is more information out today.

I am certain he wouldn't have apologized to his dead girlfriend but was sane enough to go to the coach and thank him for all he had done. I believe he is a plain nut job. When people are in shock and say things like "he was so nice or he was a quiet man", while that may be true on the outer mask they wear, inside they are kettles waiting to explode.

I would like to know if it was pre-meditated or if it was a case of temporary insanity. He is dead now so we will never know.

You do not murder someone you love.
