It wouldn't have mattered who the nominee for confirmation was. Diverse scandalous allegations would have been brought forth. Even if nothing at all could be found, scandalous allegations would still abound.
Even such "Liberal Thinkers" like Alan Dershowitz is saying that the Democrats would be foolish to try such a stunt. In fact, prior to the confirmation he even called it a "sexual McCarthyism" and that it should never have happened.
