…Kirkpatrick said his contacts at HarperCollins had already done some design work on the God Bless the USA Bible. He’s now taken those files, along with the text of the King James Version of the Bible — which is in the public domain — and sent them to several printers. He hopes to finalize plans for printing the Bibles, which will have an imitation leather cover, this week. Kirkpatrick, who is 58, described himself as a nondenominational Christian who loves America. He said the audience for the Bible is people like him — who care about their country and spirituality. He worries our current political divides have made it difficult for people to appreciate the country’s heritage. The flag on the Bible’s cover represents America — not former President Donald Trump, he said. For him, the God Bless the USA Bible is a patriotic book, not a sign of Christian nationalism. Kirkpatrick also believes the nation’s Founding Fathers were inspired by the words in the Bible and that it will be helpful to have both the Scripture and the Constitution in the same book… https://religionnews.com/2021/05/27/king-james-saves-the-god-bless-the-usa-bible-lee-greenwood-elite-source-kirkpatrick/ This is going to be an interesting publication. Combining a Bible with our founding documents and a Patriotic hymn and a flag on the cover will be an interesting educational tool. While there is separation of church and state and areas that each has no place in and the other belongs, individuals having the instruments of both in their possession inside a single book cover seems to be okay to me.
I see no issues with it, this version of the Bible is in the public domain and has no copyrights ( nor does the Constitution ), so he can put a new cover on it and include both and sell it if he wants
"The flag on the Bible’s cover represents America — not former President Donald Trump, he said." I would not of added that though if I was him, might keep Trump voters from buying it, best to say nothing about politics
be weird if in a few thousand years someone finds this bible and thinks the US Constitution was something this religion believeed in
I mean . . . Romans 13 absolutely condemns the Founding Fathers, but the cover design is really good.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been teaching this concept for 191 years now. Although, the Church's reason is two fold. One agrees with this principle that the U.S. is key with Life, Liberty and the Free Agency to believe in God the way you want to exercise that belief. The other reason is that with the concept from the Declaration of Independence that we get our "rights" as a free people from God, not man or government. And, the Constitution protects this right which made it possible for Christ to come back and re-establish his Church after centuries of total apostacy. The time of the Restitution of all things. So, I wonder if he will do his best to sell his bible to the LDS Church?
Any facts that annoy commies and assorted deviants is indeed a good idea. I would prefer he use the NKJV, but the KJV is okay too. Yes, and a reminder that the establishment clause only applied to and restricted the Federal government and not the states, and didn't by any stretch mean separation from Christianity, just the Fed favoring specific sects on a national level. The individual states could establish them all day long, change them every week if they so chose to.
If the states did that they would be in VIOLATION of the FEDERAL RIGHTS of We the People in those states so your premise is 100% wrong.
Nope, it's an historical fact; several states kept their established state sects; they only dis-established them due to demographic changes, Massachusetts being the last to do so, around 1834 or so. Your false claim is 100% wrong. It's clear the Founders didn't apply it to the states, and there is nothing you can do about it, except keep lying to school kids and illiterates. Maybe get your 'Story Hour' drag queens to feed them them yours along with all the other lies they like to brainwash kids with. Thomas Jefferson himself subsidized religious evangelism using Federal dollars on two or three occasions, as well. He is also usually misrepresented as an atheist, in spite of a couple of his surviving letters to close friends where he states he is a Christian.
The ONLY group "lying to school kids and illiterates" and "brainwashing" them are the Science Denialist evangelical Christians. Go right ahead and ATTEMPT to IMPOSE a RELIGION in your own state. The subsequent LAWSUITS will establish it as UNCONSTITUTIONAL and not even the current SCrOTUS will uphold it. Sad that you are UNAWARE of how the Constitution and Individual Rights apply in our nation.
As for original intent it's very clear; the establishment clause was a restriction on the Federal Government, not the states. Since many states were founded by religious dissenters, the Constitution would never have been ratified without such a clause. It was also one of the founding tenets of the Baptist Church around 1611 or so, which is where it came from, hence Jefferson's concerns over the Danbury Baptists and alleviating their worries. The 'evangelicals' of the First and Second 'Great Awakenings' got Jefferson elected Vice President and then President. They did not want to see the Anglican Church established as a national sect, as it was trying to do in New York and other states before the Revolution. The Federalist factions had many among its voters who supported such an establishment, enough to cause concern.
