Soon I will be walking to the station to catch a train. I will be walking through one of the oldest and most notorious areas of Sydney, "The Block" in Redfern. A month ago they finished filming "Underbelly - Razor" there, a story about the prohibition days and the razor gangs that grew from the violence associated with the "sly grog", drugs and prostitution. Toady 50% of "The Block" lies in rubble, heavy earth moving and demolition equipment completed the task in a few hours. In the coming weeks the rest, or most of it will suffer the same undignified end. It is another step in what seems a race into the future. Our past is soon forgotten as the machinery takes it away. Old and derelict buildings need to go, they are dangerous and have past their usefulness. We can debate all night about the history, the events that led to this conclusion. It will change nothing. We need to look forward, maybe change the way we look altogether. In a reply to a post I wrote this Maybe we need a new political party, or even direction. Not left nor right but forward. In the same post I also said.. your thoughts...
I don't know much about Australian politics, but I do know two-party systems are dangerous and destructive.
Exactly, to my way of thinking, parties are. Why should someone vote the party way, even if it is against their conscience or their constituents wishes. Parties should be a place for guidance, research, education, discussion and debate. The way the member votes should be based on his determination based on all factors, his constituents best interest on average in particular. Am I in fairy land?
We might both be in fairy land, but I remain undeterred. I just posted something about Ross Perot getting 19% of the popular vote in the US in 1992 and ZERO Electoral Votes. That shows how rigged our system is. I would assume it's similar in all two-party systems. Yes, I agree with you 100%.
Good and thank you, see the answer is easy, we are a pretty smart bunch in general, let's put our heads together.
