Actually I like Canada, and can hardly wait until we annex you, as we will eventually, nature of the beast and all. Its just the pompous asses that populate that pristine wilderness that are the problem.
You can only hope. I heard Canada was devastated by the Cola Wars, which ended up contributing to Saddam Hussein becoming prime minister of Canada. Also, how do you all live with the top halves of your heads detached?
so canada is just a foreign nation to you? I thought we were best buds, your largest and most important trading partner...your #1 destination for vacations?
You still didn't answer the question... ...and, yes, Canada is a foreign nation from a US point of view. It kinda' fits the definition exactly being that it is not part of the US. Which is worse: half of a population not being able to name the capitol of a foreign nation, or 75% of a population not being able to name the position that is the head of state of their own country?
There's nothing wrong with learning for the sake of learning, and apparently only half of Americans decided to bother to learn the capital of Canada just for the sake of doing it. I really don't see the problem here, nor how you can use such a useless piece of information as a means to determine the intelligence level of an entire country.
What do you expect from a culture like ours that waters down actual learning with things like Ethnic Studies, history from XXX Perspective and Human Sexuality..complete with a demonstration of a woman getting penetrated by a machine. Sorry, we throw the word "Education" around left and right...but we've lost what education really means these days. Im not surprised we can't name it, heck..I bet theres a bunch who cant name our capital either.
Indeed benevolent, have you seen the aid we offer the world at every disaster? We help virtually anyone in need after a natural disaster, whether they are friend or foe. We also persue our interests, as all countries do, well countries capable of having interests and the ability to persue them. Too bad most lesser nations are unable to do that.
I bet a solid majority of Americans know that the POTUS is the head of state in the US which can be contrasted with Canada where 75% cannot name the Canadian head of state. Does that mean that I can determine the intelligence level of Canadians? Does that make Canadians dumber than Americans?
So what? Grats on knowing some arbitrary information. It's also much easier to figure out what a nations capital/leader is when it's in the news daily.
Actually that's good. There is no reason those of us on this side of the Atlantic should be owing any fealty to some European Monarch, especially one that that has let her station and the political significance of it decline so far. History has shown that a monarch as to be active in maintaining the legitimacy of the Crown. Elizabeth II has not met that duty.
canadians are not as into politics as much as you americans here we're usually apathetic but down there it is a blood sport
For the record, I guessed right. However, I think that it's inexcusable for American students to not study Canada. I mean, strategically speaking we should all have well-informed knowledge of our neighbors to the North. You know, just in case we get bored one day and have to invade. Let's make this a national priority.

When I was in high school (maybe middle school, not sure) we had to learn all of the national capitals. The test consisted of a blank map of each continent and we had to write the country name and capital in each appropriate place. After high/middle school I went to college, have had several jobs since and I can't think of a single instance where any of that knowledge was of more than a trivial use.
