We should all rally against big government while Trump is in office. It is one of the few things that I agree with Republicans on. Smaller government is not bad, and during the Bush administrations the attempt was halfhearted at best. One of the things we should end is Federal Aid that goes to States. If states want more power, they should pay their own way. This would mean we can lower income taxes overall, which is exactly what we all want, right? Every year tax money goes to liberal states like New Mexico. Why should they get your tax money?

Sorry, but Democrats especially will not want to see the Federal choke-hold on the states diminished in any way.

Abraham Lincoln was the one who distorted and ruined the Constitutional relationship between the central Federal government and the individual states. He all but destroyed the way everything had been created to work in the first place -- the Constitution states clearly exactly what the functions and responsibilities of each Branch of Government is, and EVERYTHING else goes to the individual states (and its people). Ah, the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution was a wonderful feature, but it only took one dictatorial autocrat like Lincoln to wreck it and create an all-powerful monstrosity such as we see today in Washington D. C.

The central Federal Government dumps all these mandates, many of which are UNFUNDED on the states, and then the states go crazy trying to figure out how to comply, and how to pay for all this crap. It didn't take long for states to be little more than the equivalent of 'serfs' in a Feudalistic Federal scheme, and now the states can't survive without heavy funding from "Uncle Sugar".

It's funny, really. Radical Democrats are always (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing and complaining about "trickle-down" economics, and yet the rotten, corrupt system of Big Brother telling the states what they MUST do, and then hogging control over the states' economies doesn't even make them raise an eyebrow.

This sorry state of affairs is just one more reason why we desperately need more ORIGINALISTS on the Supreme Court! We will never get our 10th Amendment back, but at least we can prevent this bloated, power-mad central government situation from getting any worse....

You obviously do not live in a state that suffers from hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, earthquakes, or flooding. Can your state figure out how to handle problems that require more resources than your state has? People in New Jersey thought the money spent in New Orleans was wasteful following Hurricane Katrina/ Rita, until Hurricane Sandy hit them. Can your state handle keeping the streets, routes, roads, highways and interstates paved and pothole free without federal help? What about an outbreak of Zika or a lone wolf terrorist attack? We have federal spending for a reason and we are the UNITED States of America, because we all kick in and help where it is needed, as it is needed, because it is the right thing to do, and because we expect that help to come our way when we need it.

What's really funny is that all that federal money tends to flow to states who vote republican...

But I agree with you and the OP, let's end all federal aid to the states.

The states can pay for all their own military installations and troops. And they can decide when and where to deploy them. Sounds reasonable. After all, why should I pay for soldiers to live and work in North Carolina? Where is my kickback on all those salaries and money they spend over there? I want to keep it in my state. Sure the feds can still have their "army and navy" per the constitution, but if I foot the bill well ten it's mine.

I also want to stop paying for roads I don't drive on. Please rip up all the interstate highways. Also, let's end the federal canal's in Arizona and let Phoenix support 5 million people on the water it has in the valley. The same will apply to LA.

Oh and every state that has a river in it should dam it at the boarder. See ya Texas.

What else should we stop having a national and federal government get in the way of with the states? I'm sure I missed something.

I completely agree. Your state gives more than it takes too.

    That's right.

Exactly. Why should these states get my tax dollars?

So, you want to end federal aid that comes in handy during natural disasters like Katrina? THAT federal aid? There are times when big government is a force for good, and those times of when a tornado tears a city apart, a earthquake brings skyscrapers down, or a hurricane floods a city, big government is a force for good.

Lol considering that their annual budget is only 14B, I'd say there's more to it than that, but sure why not? Small government all the way, right?

Yeah, next time your city is flooded, or torn up by tornadoes, don't be asking for assistance from the National Guard either. According to you, government assistance is bad.

Hmmm, it looks to me like the red states are the big mooches. Alabama, Missouri, S Caroline, Kentucky...

Oh and look at that! California takes in less in Federal funds per capita than Arizona, Alabama, and Alaska, Missouri, Kentucky....

No doubt, the west coast could ditch the rest of the US and be just fine.

    Yes, yes, yes!

Why send $$$ to Washington and let them take their 20% cut before they send it back to the states? It makes no sense. Washington should tax and spend less, allowing the states to operate as they wish.

OP, don't know all the ramifications.

I will say any politician signing a sanctuary city proclamation loses 2 years of federal money for their state. Does not matter if it is a city or state official, entire state looses it for 2 years as soon as they sign it. The next day US Marshalls show up and arrest the traitor. If the traitor does not comply with the officers at once, gas em, take em down and cinch the cuffs up hard!

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, I'm pretty sure that makes up for any expansion of the Federal government.

This is a brilliant idea and I thank you for raising it.

There is no need to domineer with the Federal government and one size fits all solutions. That's not what the union was meant to be.

Kudos to you. Secede and you can even have no borders if you like.
