Since I noticed some necroposting of old threads on minimum wage, let's discuss in a fresh thread.

The largest problem with raising the minimum wage, even though I support it, is market saturation. The market for minimum wage jobs is over saturated. This includes a number of variables, the under educated wanting to make their way without a degree, illegal immigrants, and those fresh out of college without a career in their specified field. The portion of the population that is the largest drain here in terms of minimum wage jobs that are available is undoubtedly illegal immigrants.

With giving those here illegally the opportunity to work here regardless of their legal status creates a variable that otherwise wouldn't exist. This does not bowed well for competition for these minimum wage jobs, thus attributing to higher unemployment rates and people leaving the workforce all together. There just aren't enough minimum wage jobs for everyone who needs them with the added pressure of illegal immigrants.

So my proposal is this, we can raise minimum wage (and should), but something has to be done about illegal immigration as it is bringing arbitrary competition in a field of work that's not able to support that many people competing for the same job. This is also the largest factor that gives anti raise minimum wage arguments, at least in terms of the labor force so much weight.
