Joel Kotkin put out a great op-ed on how radical environmentalism is dooming California's economy to permanent stagnation. He makes a good argument, so good that few liberal commenters posted to refute it, one however, did not even bother to refute it. Instead they allowed the mask to slip about what environmental whackos really mean when they mean "sustainable"

So there we have it from the "environmentalist street". Economic stagnation is okay, as long as they can worship like druids around the foot of Mt. Shasta!

Where do these ignorant beliefs come from that put nature before mankind to such an extent that they are willing to accept economic stagnation, or even decline, in order to maintain the pristine condition of environment?

I'm not talking about reasonable anti-pollution regulations here. We're not talking about dumping toxins into rivers. We're talking about destroying thousands of acres of crop land, inability to build single family homes, drive cars, etc. common everyday activities that humans engage in being told that is "unsustainable" and if the economy is based on such things then stagnation is preferable to environmental compromise.

These people inhabit the entire EPA as well, and this is their belief as well, that economic stagnation is secondary to radical environmentalism.
