Isn't it obvious? No other mindset says "this group of people is allowed to take, by force, from that group of people".

As a human being, I am so offended when I hear arguments from friends who say "these people are entitled to that", or "those people should HAVE to pay more in taxes". If left alone, without force or compulsion, the world would exist in a mostly conservative state. It requires a liberal's aggression to get the ball of statism rolling. One group of people (those we call "Government") ought to force another group of people (those with the ability) to do things for a third group of people (those without ability).

It is force. It is aggression. It is actively stealing from some and giving to others.

Can I come into your house and take your property? No.

Then how can YOU give to GOVERNMENT a right that you yourself do not possess?

    Aggression. Force. Evil.

Benjamin Franklin would never have written such a silly OP. Perhaps you should consider changing your tag name, Silence Dogood.

It's interesting that you want Greece on your doorstep and then will howl foul when it arrives.

He would had he lived in the 21st Century. But you are also talking about a man obsessed with eating and sunbathing in the nude in public. A great man in many ways, but also quite the oddball.

"He who sacrifices freedom for security deserve neither"

"I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it."

He seemed to not appreciate the redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor, don't you think?

The second sentence I think that talks about redistribution of wealth, but whatever :-D

And yes, it is easier for the poor driving them out of it if they have access to the basic services like education, healthcare, transport, shelter, food... They have to worry about other questions. And they can be freer and drived out of poverty.

I don't understand the meaning. This part confuses me:

    "...they can vote themselves money..."

When people realize that they have the ability to get money by casting votes, that will herald the end of the republic.

It is saying that you will have a group of people that find if they vote for certain people, they can make money.

For example, I may run for a spot in the U.S. Senate by promising to take money from the few who are rich and give it to the many who are poor. This is what Ben Franklin means by "people can vote themselves money". Voting to give money to themselves.
