You didn't read the whole story. The probation board was convinced by his counselors he no longer molested little boys and had promised to ONLY molest little girls, and since it seems NONE of the loudest mouths of the public give a damn about that kind of pedophile, they released him.
New Zealand is very liberal, they release minor attracted adults back into general population after rehabilitation.
