Some of the stories of people losing their coverage have been exaggerated, and yes, Obama is not lying when he said in Boston that many simply had junk policies.

But that is NOT true of the main. Here is case where a perfectly good policy that this couple liked, cannot be kept as Obama has promised.

    http://www.propublica.org/article/loyal-obama-supporters-canceled-by-obamacare

This quote is the single most disturbing:

"“In a few cases, we are able to find coverage for them that is less expensive, but in most cases, we’re not because, in sort of pure economic terms, they are people who benefited from the current system ... Now that the market rules are changing, there will be different people who benefit and different people who don’t.”

In other words, the middle class who are barley above the poverty level have to pay for those below the poverty level while Obama's friends, unions, congress and civil servants are exempted.

    Great plan. Fair and just

YAY another Obamacare thread that easily could have just been grafted into one of the many that already exist.

Oh and "lifelong Obama supporter" is just a wee exaggeration.

Well, MY POLICY was CANCELLED as well. Of course it NOW it's 'replacement' has a lower premium and a MANDATED payment for a 'well visit' each year. So BC/BS is more than WELCOME to 'cancel' my policy and I will WELCOME the new one! (After being RIPPED OFF FOR 20 YEARS--and probably carrying a 'JUNK POLICY' that luckily I never had to test).

Be very very careful NEWS CONSUMERS of the wording of CANCELLED.

So, their premiums went from $550 to $975.

I don't know which is more surreal, writing Nancy Pelosi to fix what she completely (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up, or lowering his salary or shifting more money toward a retirement account so he can get someone else to subsidize his insurance.

Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven couldn't have come up with a worse plan...

The main problem is that ObamaCare is like every other government system. Cookie-cutter efficiency with no wiggle room. If you had a fantastic plan that landed somewhere between Gold and Platinum, your plan will be scrapped. Why? Because it doesn't completely emulate either the Gold or Platinum. Let's forget for a moment that it is better than a Bronze or Silver plan. Because it doesn't fit the cookie cutter perfectly, it gets scrapped for a policy that does.

Obama was not truthful about Obamacare, agreed. But in the majority of cases, how is it Obama's fault if private insurance companies change their policies that are not in line with the ACA and are then forced to drop customers ?

I still find it somewhat comical that anyone could believe that Obama had complete control of health care insurance companies.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually think about what they write.

"...how is it Obama's fault if private insurance companies change their policies that are not in line with the ACA and are then forced to drop customers ?"

So Obamacare forces changed to plans in the individual market, there are plans that are not compliant with those standards, so they cannot be continued by law. So you are arguing in effect, how can Obama be held responsible for the regulations of his own law?

    Hmmm....

lol - maybe not worded the best on my part, but what i mean is - if Obama's original intent was to say that you can keep your doctor/insurance as long as it complies wit the ACA, how is his fault that once the law passed it did what it was supposed to - which was weed out the policies that aren't adhering to it's demands ?

again, I agree Obama did essentially lie when he said we could keep our doctor/insurance because he failed to mention there were conditions for this, but given the ACA passed, the insurance companies need to either comply or drop, right ?

well, indirectly he does because the goal of Obamacare is single payer - and that will happen if the demands of the ACA are too much for insurance companies who keep dropping enough people - that's where the public option came into play - but because that didn't make the cut, it's going to take longer - probably end up with one or two insurance companies holding most of the water and eventually needing government assistence/money to keep afloat - at that point, Obama or Hilary can say, "Hey, it's best to just cut off the fringe and just evolve into single payer since we're there already."

Because Obama and the democrats designed the law that forced insurance companies to comply with Obamacare, which in turn forced them to cancel many policies.

My wife's policy was canceled, and her new one under Obama went up 100%

Yeah, thanks for the hope and change Obama. He is a liar, and saying he is not truthful is too kind. This health nightmare will blow up in their faces next year come election time when most of this nation experiences sticker shock

So if the EPA guidelines are changed and now require company x to meet certain standards they weren't previously required to meet, and their products don't do that, forcing them to change them and charge more to cover costs to meet those new guidelines, it's not the EPA's fault that the change and costs happened?

It's Obama's plan, he changed the rules by enforcing new requirements in the plan, insurance companies were forced to respond by altering or cancelling plans...Obama's fault. Seems pretty logical.

yeah, but the American people voted for Obama in 2012, right ? The ACA as it is now was already in the works and they voted for him.
i completely agree Obama has lost a lot of credibility because he wasn't fully open about the conditions that must be present in order to keep your insurance - and for that i blame him. but i don't see the issue of the ACA not being credible since it is doing what it was designed to do.

i'm sorry about your wife's insurance situation - but was her initial policy was cancelled not by the ACA but by her provider who refused to adhere to it. why can't put some blame on them for not evolving to the new law ?

The insurance companies are changing their policies because they have to emulate the different tiers. Instead of people being allowed to tailor their insurance to suit them, they are forced to find a insurer to provide a policy that emulates a tier precisely. Very few insurance policies will line up with any of the four tiers, Therefore, almost all policies will be terminated.

That's not the insurance company's fault. It is the inflexibility of ObamaCare's fault.

It's his legislation. Therefore, it's his fault.

Hopefully the couple in the OP's link enjoy their new maternity coverage that they'll surely need since they're 59 and 60 years old. From $550/mo to $1300, increased deductibles, higher hospital costs, higher maximum per year out of pocket. Seems brilliant to me. They were wed to their beliefs and embedded in the process of campaigning for the guy who claims the ACA as his hallmark legislation, so I'd say they just received exactly what they worked so hard for all along. But that slap in the face must sting pretty badly.

How does Obama control who provides coverage and who does not? Obamacare is a long way from single payer.

Your response fails to ignore the entire reason for the thread. The link in the OP gives a perfect example of people with really good insurance doing just what you suggested. It didn't really cancel, it was changed to meet the guidelines. Their new policy more than doubled their premium, increased deductible, increased out of pocket, increased hospitalization. And these folks were supporters to the campaign and even worked on the campaign. They now realize they got screwed. Either way you cut it, people are getting boned hard to shift wealth to poor people like we have never seen before.

i actually have come to accept in recent weeks that Obamacare is moving too quickly, too fast in an unknown direction. i want it halted until it's tweaked out and made more workable.

but the current problems of Obamacare doesn't change the fact that the current medical system is a scam - with doctor's and hospitals overcharging and putting the tab unto insurance companies who they overcharge it's pool payees

Well that's what the insurance companies are doing, they are following the law. They don't really have much choice on that.

If Obama's original intent was to say that you can keep your doctor/insurance as long as it complies wit the ACA but what he actually says over and over for years and years is that you that you can keep your doctor/insurance, period. No qualification, thats a problem.

Reality is a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*).........I would like to rub their noses in it even more.....like rubbing a puppy's face in its urine until it stops peeing on the carpet........there's a bunch of Obama puppies getting their faces rubbed in the ACA........LMAO at the fools. I didn't vote for the community organizer, and ACA is gonna cost me $10,000 next year.

from the article you posted it says,

"But recently, Kaiser informed them the plan would be canceled at the end of the year because it did not meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. The couple would need to find another one."

HOW IS THIS OBAMA'S FAULT that Kaiser was unwilling/unable to meet the ACA's requirements ? Isn't the blame to be on Kaiser who basically said the ACA was too hard on them and then bailed on Hammack and his wife ?

I understand the new requirements by the ACA may be hard on the insurance companies, but that's because the insurance companies have been acting like death panels for decades - overcharging premiums and finding out way to not pay out when a claim is filed. Why should we blame Obamacare when it's Kaiser's fault ?
