5 year ago prominent Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko was murdered by exotic poison, Polonium-210 by alleged professional FSB killer Andrei Lugovoi.
The popular perception is that it was orchestrated by the Russian security services, and ultimately by President Putin. But more realistic version ‘ it was initiated by a single group in the FSB or GRU as an act of revenge to the traitor

Anyway now British authorities seemed to have no interest in reducing significance of this case. On the contrary, they kept up the pressure for the extradition of Andrei Lugovoi, and kept this dispute with Russia in the media focus. It is only in the past year, and in the run-up to David Cameron's visit to Moscow this autumn that British officials stopped raising the issue at every opportunity.

In the perspective of Putin´s coming ascent to presidency it looks as an additional argument to Cold-War-style deadlock with Russia

These thoughts were carefully stolen from the interview on ValdaiClub.com

    Gary ,
I believe yet another statement from Scotland Yard /Metropolitan Police is very close .
I cannot see why we should care a jot that pursuing the matter will harm relations .
Presently Russia gives us very little business ----- the terms and conditions for doing business are complex and high risk , and Putin et al have never given any indication that they understand anything about business outside of Gas and Oil .And even there , Business just equates with Bullying .
The case against Lugovoy and Kovtun is as bombproof as can be possibly imagined and it will be interesting to see if the identity of the third assassin has been discovered -- almost certainly another ex colleague from the now disbanded URPO.
The idea that a renegade group of FSB Officers acted without Patrushev and Putin's knowledge is ludicrous . The vertical structure of Putin's Russia simply does not allow of such a possibility .
Regardless ,Litvinenko was judged to have broken Family trust and that is unforgivable in the FSB . He was a dead man walking .
The FSB were a trifle unlucky in as much as nobody had ever before been able to trace the effects of Polonium 210 poisoning .However , once the killing agent was discovered , the radiation trail was clear . So clear , that literally every footstep was traced between Moscow and London for both trips , let alone the trail around London .
My hope is that Cameron et al are directed to make this Putin's achilles heel . With mounting pressure from other sources arguing that the loss of the Polish elite at Smolensk airport on April 10 th , 2010 was a planned massacre , Putin should feel pressured .
That is the only way to deal with such a character . And the same applies to Lavrov as long as he remains Foreign Minister .

Interesting use of that word, Traitor .
Sasha was the guy who showed the world how Putin authorised the FSB to implement a bombing campaign of your own cities -- in order to marginalise the Chechens , unite the country and use hysterical Nationalism to start the second Chechen war , as it has become known .
He also exposed URPO to the West -- an independent group of the elite FSB who could eliminate anybody , anywhere and at any time , without specific approval -- provided it was in the clear interest of the State .
Litvinenko had been part of this elite group for a time -- along with Lugovoy and his pal Kovrun .
Just a couple of snippets from a litany of Mafia carnage .
