Bucky was born there? Seriously what the ****? You trolling?

And Tolkien certainly didn’t write black Elves. They’re are specifically described and the historians, hehe, said nope. No black elves or Dwarves in this story. Just like no black Hobbits that always keep to themselves and wouldn’t absorb another race. All the races in LOTR are basically Xenophobes:) and Galadriel is a totally Fabrication of who she was. They created a new character and slapped a name on her.

I don’t have time or energy to read your excuses. And the fact you’re not aware of so many white characters recast as black, you’re a total a waste of my time because you’re trolling. There are endless articles about it from far bigger comic book and movie nerds than me. If you care to educate yourself look it up.

You know what they did it. You know the motivation. Stop beating around the bush. Be honest.

It's straight up hatred and bigotry that this version isn't non-binary. It's 2022!

    You didn't specify "born there."

He wrote about dark elves. The sources he used talked about dark elves. He never stated that all of his elves were white. He never stated there were no black elves, and he would have been an extraordinarily bad writer if he admitted there were multiple races of human but not of elves and dwarves.

This is not an English sentence.

Dude, most of the hobbits were literally described as having brown skin. And, again, can you quote Tolkien saying that all of his elves were white? Can you quote him saying there were no black elves or dwarves? Just once? I doubt he was that stupid, but there's a possibility I suppose.

Galadriel is played by a white woman.

And apparently no time or energy for five minutes of homework . . . or to construct a logical argument.

Buddy, try reading the thread (as much as that appears to pain you). I never claimed that there were no white characters recast as black. That does happen. Just as it happens in the reverse. I've provided several examples of fictional and historical characters who were non-white and who were recast as white.

Unlike you, I have done so.

Come back when you have done your homework, bud. You aren't prepared to have this conversation.

Sorry. You were screwing with me from the get go saying stupid **** like, “Bucky is in Wakanda.” Look there are white people. And then you go and snakily try to be clever and claim you didn’t know I meant BORN there? Seriously. WTF else could I possibly have meant?? Bye. No more trolling.

And the official Tolkien historian was fired from the show for asking why they were changing the lore. Again. Bye.

As fun as it is to talk movies, I can’t engage with someone trolling.

My mistake for assuming you would read your own posts and actually read my responses. I'll be sure not to make the mistake of assuming that you are willing to read in the future.

Silver or white hair would fit with the lore just fine, and I don't see why anyone would care about hair color being different. His skin, according to the lore, should be dark, but there's no reason a white actor couldn't play him. In fact, white voice actors have portrayed him, and it looks like the most likely choice for his casting in the upcoming movie is Benedict Cumberbatch who is, last I checked, white as ****.

Benedict Cumberbatch? The pasty actor who played the Indian "Khan" in one of the Star Trek movies? Well he does have a record of race swapping.

Honestly, the only thing that offended me about that one was them trying to pretend that it wasn't Khan and then trying to pull it out as a "surprise" that everyone was obviously expecting. It was the same problem I had with Christoph Waltz as Blofeld in James bond. No problem with the casting, I love both actors, but it was a lame attempt at a twist.

Cumberbatch as Khan was typical JJ Abrams stunt casting. I was offended that in the 21st Century they couldn't find an Indian actor to play an Indian character. It was ridiculous to have one of the whitest guys on the planet play an Indian. When the casting is so absurd that it takes you out of the movie because it's nonsensical I find that bothersome as a filmgoer.

Meh, doesn't ruin much for me. Not like the original actor was Indian. And I've enjoyed movies where white people played Jesus, Ramses II, etc.

No the original actor wasn't Indian, but that was the 1960's. They wouldn't have known where to look for one at that time, but there was no excuse in 2012.

But there certainly has always been “black elves in the fantasy/eleven books written since the 1950s - which is about where the “whites only” attitude belongs. Now the first movies were populated with non white actors as they were filmed in NZ and a very very significant proportion of the cast were Maori

Do you know the funniest thing about this outrage? This is not the first time Ariel has been played by a “non white” actress. The little Mermaid Live the actress was Aulii Cravalho. Who is not “white” but half Hawaiian and half a mix that could only exist in a place like Hawaii

You talking black fantasy elves in general or LOTR specifically? In D&D there’s everything but this isn’t D&D. Drow and Dark Elves are awesome. Why weren’t there black elves or Dwarves in the prior 6 movies from Jackson?

Well. Let’s hope when they cast Black Panther, Storm or Blade as a white guy, no one will say anything:)

White dudes still crying about a black girl getting to play an iconic, yet COMPLETELY fictional, character. Unbelievable.

    Here’s a radical idea… don’t go see the movie. You’re welcome.

Well obviously between the 2nd and 3rd Age there was some sort of massive genocide.

Pratchett had such a wonderful wry sense of humour and a vivid vision of a crazy mad brilliant world - he will long be missed.
