HI all, first post and looking forward to chatting with you all. So comes the question of the day.... is it immoral and inhuman to cause a death row to a prolonged wait? or is it even conceivable that our society eliminate the dreaded sentence? <<< MODERATOR EDIT: REDIRECT >>> BTW love the image.
Generally I am against the death penalty. I agree that the current system where a death row inmate could be on death row for a decade or more is ridiculous. OTOH, I have no qualms about executing a pedophile that kidnaps, assaults and murders a child, in which case I think the Russian method of execution - a bullet to the head is appropriate - I'd even volunteer to pull the trigger. (one of my few far right viewpoints).
I seriously think most people who say they could do that would be unable to, when he's kneeling and cowering on the ground with his hands tied. Not that I have anything wrong with that, I just think most would crumble under the pressure if actually placed in the situation. Purposefully killing someone who has surrendered is always hard on the conscience. I think all prisoners should be given the option to choose suicide rather than incarceration. I'd even let them choose the method - I imagine heroin overdose would be up there. Hell, they're saving us probably a few million dollars, I'm willing to let them go out with a bang if they so wish. It's not like we don't have tonnes and tonnes of confiscated heroin sitting around the place. Would I force the death penalty on them? Sure, why not - it saves money. It's nothing personal - any rational society will either put them to work or kill them already. If they're not going to ever be released they're just a $150,000 a year paperweight.

My position on crime is rather simple: minor crimes need to be punished far more leniently, major crimes require a much more strong approach. We treat too many free men like criminals, and too many criminals like free men.
@SteadyPie ..... I would say its is not a bad idea to offer the method as a choice to the criminal. Its kinda funny.... imagine death row inmates receive a colorful menu to check in a box their preferred option to "exit". I tried to point you all to the article but I'm still a fresh banana. " would love to hear your thoughts about the image primarily ha ha
Imo, anyone worthy of a life sentence should get the death penalty. I'm undecided as to what evidence level should be used. But, those who are caught red handed should be immediately after sentencing.
