Figured I haven't seen much of this here, and I haven't played or led a mafia game in a while... Anyone here know their way around the game and would be interested in playing it? For those who don't know, here's a simple summary (for those who know, skip ahead past the indents): Mafia (also known as Werewolf) is a forum game where you have to discover which of the players belongs to the opposing team. Each player is given a private role at the beginning of the game, distributed randomly. There are two sides: the town, and the mafia. The town roles have the goal of eliminating the mafia. The mafia have the goal of surviving until their numbers are equal to the number of townies. The townies know their own role (and any powers associated with it), while the mafia know their role, and the role, name, and user of each other player who also belongs to the mafia. The game is separated into two modes: night, and day. During the day, all playing members talk among themselves in the thread, trying to determine who is a member of the mafia. Each player, mafia or townie, has a vote, which they can place on one player at a time. If any individual player has more than half of the votes, the day ends, and that player gets lynched, and is removed from the game. At the time of death, the role and name of the lynched player is revealed, allowing those involved to know who was killed, and potentially draw information from that. During the night, the mafia players are allowed to talk among themselves privately*, and can choose to "nightkill" any one player. At the start of the new day, that player is removed from the game, and his details are revealed. To give the townies a fighting chance, there are various common special townie roles: - Vigilante: the Vigilante is a townie player who, once per night, has the ability to nightkill. This ability is often limited to once per game, or can be used during the day. - Doctor: the doctor is a townie player who, once per night, has the ability to protect a player. That player cannot be nightkilled. - Seer: The seer is a townie player who, once per night, has the ability to target a player and determine their alignment (and depending on the rules sometimes also their role and name). Keep in mind that even if you get one of these roles, there's no way for anyone else to know that you actually are who you say you are. Screenshots of private messages are, obviously, grounds for instant modkilling. There's a lot more to Mafia, and this page is generally a solid guide to go off of. *I will probably set up a small chatbox for this purpose. This is mostly for determining whether people are interested/experienced here. Figure it'd be nice to have us at each other's throats without political ideology making things worse. If there are enough people interested, I could lead a simple game or two, or if anyone else wanted to design a game, I'd be glad to play. If I can get 10 people, we can get started. Please note that if you can't reply every two days (or at least tell me that you're there and still playing) you probably shouldn't join.
