Is this article from a major liberal outlet really serious? Is it legal for media to call people to 'violent resistance'? It is against forum rules to encourage violence, so I don't know if we can discuss why this is a bad idea?

This is not proper or in good etiquette because it seems extreme, as real liberals believe in non violence from the civil rights movement.

It also says not to be a liberal who is against this, because that is a position of privilege. It does not appear that people who are oppressed would resort to these tactics, and that the people who encourage this are actually the ones of privilege?

I’m sure it’s legal, especially in the US. I’d be surprised if a publication like HuffPost didn’t have this kind of article checked by lawyers (or at least legally-informed editors) before publishing them.

In this form it probably should be legal too. It’s a fairly academic piece quite a distance from standing in front of an angry crowd and stirring them up. I personally disagree with pretty much everything in it but I think it’s better people with this kind of opinion speak up in this kind of format, when they can be questioned and challenged rather than suddenly appearing on the streets out of the blue with clubs and firebombs.

Everyone would violently rise up against say... Hitler and mass genocides. The hysteria surrounding Trump is such that those on the extreme left feel they're similar cases, that Trump is a full blown, genocidal fascist.

They cannot see that he is a populist who couldn't care less about his political affiliation so long as it gets him power. He will therefore appeal to his niche as ever, cognizant of the need to now broaden his appeal for the general election.

Anyone advocating imminent lawless action should be jailed. Saying "I support a violent revolution" does not cut it because the appeal is not imminent, it is theoretical.

The opinion piece doesn't explicitly call for violence but merely asserts that violence can be a catalyst for social change and has been in the past.

Violence has also been a catalyst for the nation's destruction, and the rise of Trump. I linked our present day problems to those "uprisings" in my destroyed post. Liberals simply did not want to take responsibility for the poisoned political climate they continue to embrace and advance, But I do know where responsibility lies. And if these anarchists want to continue their violent behavior, they can be met with the legal resistance of law enforcement officials.

If we had crushed these so-called protesters at the very beginning, none of this would happen including Trump.

Here we go again another thread based on an "untruth". What is the untruth? This article is NOT representative of the position of the Hunington Post. It is the opinion of a blogger who writes personal opinions as an opinion piece in the Huffungton Post.

So after I verified that this article was not an article that poses the position of Hufington Post as the OP so untruthfully stated I decided that this is just another thread that in based on what? Untruth? A lie? Twisted logic? Falsehood? Bearing false whiteness against thy neighbor? Whatever it is it,s not worth reading Irather read a thread based on an honest basis even I disagree with such a thread than read something far less than honest.

Why should they take responsibility for the "poisoned climate?" It's not like they created it.

Nice cop out. The Blog is on the Huffington Post, and the author clearly calls for violence, and justifies violence. So what the (*)(*)(*)(*) are you talking about?

Sir there no "cop out" on my part but there is an untruthfulness on the part of the OP. Why do I say ?
Simple. The OPfails and fails miserably to discuss the article yet instead states in an untruthful way falsely claiming that the Huffington Post foster violence when that is for lack of a less harsh word ----a lie.
It,s the writer of the article that fosters violence.

So I will stop trying to be gentle and nice and just say it --- the title of the OP thread is a lie!

    See no cop out!!

It was only until what, a couple of days ago when Bernie finally spoke out against it? It was this same left-leaning media that always speculated during some tragic event that the Tea Party might somehow be involved(they weren't), etc. It's this same media gloating about the "changing demographics" and through all of this, you don't think there's a poisoned climate?

The political climate has been poisoned since Reagan hopped in bed with the evangelicals.

Blogs are the opinions of the bloggers not necessarily the media that offers them a place to express an opinion. EXAMPLE: What if Trump while being a guest on Shaun Vanity's show or on one of Fox's intelligent hosts such as Bill Riley's and Trump calls the Judge who replaced Judge Curiel "Judge N-word".
So you post a thread that says that Fox Network called the Judge Curiel an ]Judge N-word[". I would say to you no, you wrong Fox did call Judge Cutiel's replacement the "N-word", Trump did.

You it was the author of the blog article in the Huffington Post that maybe called for liberals to achieve violence.

    Get it now??

The only truthful and righteous answer to your phony baloney "question" is that I may answer it after you stop beating your wife or your boyfriend.

So I beat my wife, or boyfriend because I called you out for lying?
Man, how can I withstand such a intellectual challenge to your blatant dishonesty.

    Psst... You're still a liar.

I hate to tell you this, but Huffingtonpost is not considered a major media outlet. It's just some internet news service; now if it were a true major outlet like CBS, ABC, Fox News Channel, NBC, MSNBC, the New York Times, NY Post, LA Times, Washington Times, etc, it could be taken more seriously.

The writer is a white guy who supports white wounding. It is his shtick as a writer to pretend that saying things the other people who enjoyed his bourgeois upbringing aren't saying makes him smarter. Odds are at some point he was one of those kids who puts cornrows or dreadlocks in their jewfro to show what a rebel they are as they trot around in their J Crew or A&F gear.

That's a pretty silly statement, since more and more people get their news from internet media. Newspapers are almost out the door, and adopting Huffpo type mediums.

Regardless, Huffpo is not considered a major media source. Guess we'll have to disagree on this.
