Manny Pacquiao is in hot water for comparing Gays to animals. He later apologized but many Gays and many people for civil liberties are not accepting his weak apology.

In my opinion, I am appalled by this hateful statement, and as a boxing champion, he should have known better than to issue such a despicable remark. A person is responsible for his actions so he now has to face the repercussions from that hateful statement.

    What is your opinion?

I think he spoke what was in his heart, and as such, he could repent and ask forgiveness, and it is important for those he offended to forgive him.
The rest is between him and God.

We live in an era where bigots and haters SHOULD be put on notice.

If you can't understand and accept that homosexuals or LGBT are people just like everyone else... then no one should put up with your dehumanizing BS... ever.

Manny, should have kept his biases to himself.

    My thoughts are this:

    1) I'm not in charge of what someone else thinks or says.
    2) Pacquiao has a right to say whatever he wants, short of specific incitement.

    HOWEVER:

The right to freedom of speech is a protection from government. It is not a right to be protected from the criticism by one's peers of something you've said.

With freedom comes responsibility. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from the consequences of one's utterances. While government should not act to restrict speech that some deem hateful, private citizens and organizations certainly can take whatever actions they deem appropriate in response, so long as they act within the confines of the law.

He has a right to his opinion, nothing that he said was hateful.

The irony is just far too thick to over look. Somebody that fights other people for money is comparing people he doesn't like to animals?:roflol:

Saying that gay people are worse than animals isn't hateful?

    Right, and I'm a Vermiscious K'nid!

No his opinion isn't hateful, his statement was. He is dehumanizing people. Not only is he saying they are worse than animals he is reducing them to a sexual act. That's as hateful as it gets.

Maybe, too many concussions. Who knows? Either way, I'm not putting up with his bigoted crap nor anyone else's. You decide to HURT people, then be fairly certain the Karma is waiting up the road or around the bend... whichever.

Nike cuts ties with Manny Pacquiao after derogatory comments
I support Pacquiao's freedom to make inflammatory (and incorrect) claims.
I also support a private company dropping endorsements of individuals who no longer represent them.

Looks like being a bigot is becoming an expensive proposition.

He doens't come from a an enlightened western country. These are views that he probably grew up with and it's likely that the Philippines has a long way to go to catch up with the US. I encountered this sort of attitude when I lived in Eastern Europe. It was common among those who came from the countryside and that was just 10 years ago. Then again, I also encountered it in Texas among my cousins when I was a kid (I was raised in Oakland, CA in a very mixed neighborhood.)

I not too concerned with what people who have had their heads pounded on for long periods of time have to say.

Manny posted an Instagram where he is quoting Leviticus 20:13 that calls for the execution of Gays. He deleted this Instagram but it was too late. Manny is not sorry for what he previously stated about comparing Gays to animals and I am sure further repercussions will follow for his hateful statements.

Well, with people like Donald Trump out here setting examples... I suppose many more people will put their feet through their own heads, before things get better.

I was in the military for over 35 years. One of the first rules we were taught about going abroad... was:

People in other nations don't think/act the way you do. It kept us safer and acting as good 'ambassadors' for America overall. Pacquiao needs to get a fracking COMPUTER and do some learning. The excuses for being an abject, ignorant bigot are waning in the world today. Yeah, I know people (especially here in America) dream up excuses (often of the most arrogantly ludicrous type)... to justify their wretched thinking and expression of the same. But the reality is that 'reciprocity' doesn't go on vacation... just because one may think/feel justified in their irrational animus.

He needs to get to learning really fast, he's an international PUBLIC figure; not some anonymous person in an internet forum.

Yes. I'm patient with individuals I may encounter, but not very tolerant of the bigotry in general. We have to be certain to try and communicate the fact that we are all 'human' and deserving of at least a modicum of mutual regard or even respect.

I just read where Magic Johnson said he will not be watching another fight featuring Manny and he applauded Nike for severing its ties with Manny.

Screw Manny's bigotry. He may be great in certain ways... but this BS he recently expressed, shows his lack of charity and compassion.

Manny's apology was never sincere. I'm glad Magic Johnson had the courage to put Manny in his place.

It seems he later twittered gays should be put to death, so you are correct about his apology being false.
