OK, if men can manufacture DNA, can we stop worshipping at the altar of "human DNA"? There's no longer anything "special" about DNA, it's just something we can stir up in a lab. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3725679...nce/t/its-alive-artificial-dna-controls-life/ It may not quite be "Frankenstein," but for the first time scientists have created an organism controlled by completely human-made DNA. Using the tools of synthetic biology, scientists from the J. Craig Venter Institute installed a completely artificial genome inside a host cell without DNA. Like the bolt of lightning that awakened Frankenstein, the new genome invigorated the host cell, which began to grow and reproduce, albeit with a few problems. The research marks a technical milestone in the synthesis and implantation of artificial DNA
Very interesting story. There is also new scientific evidence, that DNA is not sufficient to create life and living structures are not fully described by their DNA codes. What do you think about a software that could be designed to absorb people's lives, such as thinking, feelings, and personalities, and then program it into a fleet of spacecrafts? This way we would not need bodies that derive from some DNA, but we would "be" individual space crafts/robots. The benefit would be that we would not be tied to the limited resources of Earth any more as a result.
Since DNA changes over a lifetime, there must be something else to life. Science fiction. Too far out for me to imagine.
