While the stereotypes tell us the French hate English food, the reality is somewhat different. Queue's formed for English sausages and biscuits and all manner of British goodies. It's no surprise to me, my ex-GF is French and loved our food, so did her whole family. I gotta say though, French cheese - (*)(*)(*)(*) them for being so good at making it! Vive la différence!
Hey Leffe,... The first time I ate a "chocolate-chip cookie" (as you see on TV) it was from M&S! I used to remember, when I was little boy (elementary school) we bought other stuff there to eat -- can't remember buying clothes there though... I never understood why they left Antwerp (and Belgium) to begin with. They had one of the biggest stores on the Meir, and they dissappeared overnight -- in their place came another H&M (like the 4th one on the Meir)...
Hey Mike, I don't think you quite understand... The English word "cookie" comes from the Dutch word "koekje" -- it means "little biscuit". We have more kind of waffles than you can ever imagine -- thousands sorts of biscuits and sweets that are "typically" Belgian -- and a chocolate-chip cookie isn't one of them. English-speaking TV-series and sitcoms only broke through in Belgium in the 90's -- only in the late 80's the first commercial television station was allowed, only in the mid-90's other commericial stations were allowed that showed shows like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Simpsons, something with a helicopter, E.R., Full House, Family Matters, etc. I would have never heard of a chocolate chip cookie if it weren't for television, and that was nothing to worry about since we have so many other types of cookies, sweets,...
Very happy about that. M&S have great sammiches. Was very sad when they closed their last shop some ten years ago. Next, I wanna be able to eat some whopper in here.
LMAO! I stepped into the first McDonalds in my life about over a year ago in Mallorca when we came back after clubbing because we wanted something to eat and everything was closed at that time... I always make sure to visit BurgerKing when abroad, luckily they are active in The Netherlands! Although, Paris/Hushush we have Quick! BTW -- did you knew that Quik is actually Belgian -- but like everything succesful coming out of Belgium it has ended up in French hands. It was nationalized by France a couple of years ago.
Yes, you taught me that on another (now defunct) forum. But I can't stand Quick. I find it gross even in fast food terms. McDo's isn't as bad but it isn't as "good" as BK. I have long thought BK was British though, what's up with being a US king
I rarely go to these burger restaurants -- only time this year was in August when we were driving back from a music festival -- and it was Quick! In my opinion, there is nothing better than a Giant. Nothing can beat that, not even a Whopper!
Oh, I now am also able to buy some Dr Pepper here, too. The only place which doesn't charge me more than a euro for a can, is a hallal shop down the street where I currently live. Thank god for these muslim businesses!
I have never tried Dandilion and Burdock. With some luck I might find it at M&S or WHSmith here. There is a kind of Dr Pepper I have never found in Europe. It is only sold in glass bottles and contains cane sugar instead of corn sirup. Yummy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Dr_Pepper
