Mary Lou McDonald has achieved a stunning break-through for Sinn Fein in the politics of the Republic of Ireland.

Sinn Fein has polled more than half a million votes (more than any other party) and come a very close second place in the number of seats in the principal chamber of the Irish Parliament, the legislature, the Dáil (pronounced "Doil").

This has transformed the traditional 2-party-race for leadership of Ireland into a 3-way fight between

    the old 2 parties
    • - Fine Gael, the party of Leo Varadkar, the current Irish Prime Minister, the Taoiseach (pronounced "Teeshach")
    • - Fianna Fáil – The Republican Party - the other party which has governed the Republic of Ireland for as long as most people can remember
    and
    • - the newcomer Sinn Fein, well not new exactly, but mostly known for its role in Northern Irish power-sharing.

It's exciting, to see who will form the next government of the Republic of Ireland. Exciting in a peaceful way, as opposed to in a blown-to-bits way. So that's progress definitely!

To congratulate Mary Lou McDonald, Sinn Fein and to send my fraternal greetings to all the parties and people of Ireland I have produced this music video.

    Hello Mary Lou McDonald

    Good.
Apparently a majority of the electorate in the Republic want unification, which means that with a bit of luck and a following wind we can dump Ulster on the south.
