    And another…maybe someone should construct a scoreboard…?

    https://www.wcvb.com/article/massachusetts-voters-donald-trump-2024-ballot/46289998#

“Massachusetts has become the latest state where some residents are attempting to bar former President Donald Trump from the Republican presidential primary and general election ballot.”

“Free Speech for People says the challengers in Massachusetts are "a mix of Republican, Independent, and Democratic voters." The challengers include former Boston Mayor Kim Janey, a Democrat, and two leading law professors.”

Still waiting for a deep red state to move in this way. All those that have filed for ineligibility so far are states that The Stain would lose anyway. Fun to watch though…

Two wagers that I’m prepared to take…

Even though I am convinced that SCOTUS will find a way to overturn these measures…

    1. Their decision will NOT be based upon the concept of the necessity of a conviction being required.

    2. Their decision will NOT revolve around the definition of who is an “officer of the USA”…

    Takers…?

    Add.....

    3. Their decision will not involve a finding one way or other about insurrection.

To be honest I think their decision could easily be based on either of those things. One of the judges in CO relied on the conviction thing. The original trial judge said president wasn’t one of the named categories.
I won’t take your bet, but I sure as heck wouldn’t offer it either.

Some more gullible dupes(in the words of Stalin) who don't understand how our federal laws work. What they are doing is constitutionally illegal.

Of course not, that's not the SCOTUS'S job(nor is it the job of these States courts), it is ONLY the job of the DOJ. Only the DOJ can charge and get a conviction on insurrection. If you're going to be mad at anyone for this 9-0, be mad at Merrick Garland. His DOJ could've pursued the charge but did not.

I'll take the bet about the Officer part. I think that's the safest off ramp for the SCOTUS.

And you might be waiting for a Red state, while I'd prefer to see our first Swing state get into this. A Wisconsin or Arizona...

I'd give him a higher grade than you for judging Constitutionality on this topic...

Unfortunately, the concept of precedent is about as dead as this current iteration of SCOTUS...

This would simply just be insane and I hope they do it, seriously! This is what POTUS swears,
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I agree, but they're not going to get into insurrection and I think the conviction argument is even worse...

I found it interesting that the article doesn't actually identify those "republicans" or "independents" who are party to this, just the little racist Mayor of Boston and her cohorts....

Where in the 14th does it say a conviction is required? Where in legal precedent was a conviction required?

If you had read it, you might have answered your own question... The better question is, where in the 14th amendment does it give the judicial branch the ability to enact or enforce it?

    Section 5.
The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Can you share with the class why you ignored this part?

Still cannot see the part that says he has to be convicted. And a court has found that he did commit sedition

Kangaroo courts can come up with all kinds of BS. Hence why the appeals court in CO overturned the ruling. And then four partisan democrats over turned that. The impact of democrats using courts in this way is undermining the repetitional authority of courts. Once democrats started abusing the power of those courts that they reign over, they put the nation at peril.

The wording of the amendment in question(and other amendments) make it abundantly clear that only the federal government may act towards a finding of insurrection.

I'm afraid the Colorado four, that stooge in Maine or these nitwits here don't qualify. It's the Law of the Land. And I expect a powerful rebuke from SCOTUS about the States attempting to do what the Confederates tried in usurping federal power and authority.

“Then [Democrats will] be trapped into appealing to the Supreme Court,” Gingrich said, “and we’ll see whether or not the Kavanaugh fight was worth it.”

Habba, in her interview with Hannity, pointed to her faith in Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, whom Trump nominated, while discussing the decisions.

“You know people like Kavanaugh ― who the president fought for, who the president went through hell to get into place ― he’ll step up,” she said.

In other threads people are asking others if they will respect and accept SCOTUS rulings. Based upon Habba (this week) and Newt Gingrich (in 2018), I don't think people can be blamed for being suspect of SCOTUS as it stands today.

Trump's criminal enterprise tactics starting to apply pressure on weak points. I always remember that Brett's CC debts, which extended into the hundreds of thousands per reports, were "taken care of" prior to his nomination.

Regardless of all this partisan nitpicking about the law, what’s important and good to see is that more and more states are stepping up to affirm that a character like trump is unquestionably unfit to serve as potus, and it’s making an impression on more and more people that trump is an undeserving and dangerous person.
Let’s hope the repubs refuse to nominate him and finally put their country ahead of such a malignant narcissist.

The Leftists will do whatever it takes, by hook or by crook.

I will never forget seeing the first Trump 2020 add in February 2020. At that time he would have gotten over 60% of the popular vote. I thought "wow, he's gonna win again and this time by a landslide."

A month later we were on lockdown due to Covid.

    By hook or by crook.
