The gods are varied and many, each addressing some element of life with their own perspective on life. Now to keep things in perspective, the gods, being gods, need nothing that any mere mortal can offer them nor do they have a particular interest is some random person. As such the gods do not require to be worshiped and will not 'smite the unbeliever'. All that being said, a voluntary show of respect is something that attracts attention and is accepted as the compliment that it is. To worship the gods inspires favor from the same and this favor in turn can lead to many benefits denied those who suffer (if that word can be used) the benign neglect typically shown by the gods. As always, I ask that any atheists that wish to comment limit themselves to the philosophical aspects of the Maxims as I don't want these threads derailed into a general theological debate.
Your "maxims" are getting nuttier and nuttier. Why don't you just post the last one so we can see where this ends up?
Nuttier than worshiping a zombie that turns its blood into wine, flesh into bread and then expects everyone to consume it all?
