Meet Kevin McCarthy. Leader of the House Republican Trump caucus. McCarthy to meet with Trump in Florida (msn.com) Former President Trump is expected to meet this week with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in Florida, a source familiar with the meeting confirmed to The Hill. The rendezvous, which was first reported by Punchbowl News, comes as McCarthy attempts to manage simmering tensions within the House GOP caucus amid the fallout from the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol and Trump's ensuing impeachment for his role in the mayhem. McCarthy's office did not respond to a request for comment. The House GOP leader spent the last four years projecting unflinching loyalty to Trump while he was in the White House, positioning himself to take the Speaker's gavel if the Republicans had taken back control of the House. More at link. I believe Trumpism is dead. For the moment, its corpse still attracts scavengers like McCarthy, but things will look very different a month from now. I'm sure many disagree, and this visit by McCarthy to the former president would support such an opinion. I'm open for that debate. Secondly, why is the House minority leader visiting an impeached president, now a private citizen, prior to an impeachment trial? Shouldn't McCarthy be in Washington working on serving the American people? And here's a gem from a few years ago. Where's my McCarthy? I want one! Kevin McCarthy had an aide pick out the pink and red Starbursts to give to President Trump as a gift Best buds 'till the end.
Kevin McCarthy is an Establishment piece of crap. All he really wants is to figure out how to get Trump to stand down. I would like to see McCarthy go away and Trump to remain an influencer, but to never run again.
Senate needs to find Trump Guilty of inciting Riot If not Dems will control the Government for decades
1) They won't 2) They won't How the economy is doing in 2022/2024 will be much bigger factor than what happened 1/6.
As questionable as Trump was expected to Win the Election Republicans in the Senate have already indicated not to run for re-election Dems in 2022 will take more seats Trump is toxic
McCarthy is a prime example of the disease like a cancerous tumor that has afflicted the Republican Party.
Don't bet the ranch on it. People thought after Tricky Dickie won 49 states in 1972 that the Democrats were toast forever. After Jimmy Carter forinated up and Saint Ronnie took over people thought that the Dems were history.
Looks like Kevbo is a little lost without his Geppetto... But don't get upset he's not in town... it's not like anybody listens to him or anything....
Because we are not Authoritarian jackholes. We are Americans and the people decide. Seriously, what is wrong with you Leftists trying to take that away from your fellow citizens? It comes off so fascist.
And yet, all you "originalists" don't seem to realize that section of the Constitution is IN the Constitution for a reason... This isn't something "leftists" are pulling out of thin air...
Yes it is. You just don't have any decent constitutional sources anymore like Turley or Dershowitz shared with you. It's a complete propaganda cycle you all adhere to. It's ****ing weird.
You have your media whores, we have ours... What's ****ing weird is people still kneeling at the pedestal of T****.... you KNOW most of them don't think he should be eligible to be the nominee in 2024, but they are more afraid of him now than ever... THAT's ****ing weird....
But the law doesn't. Oh that's right. Impeachment isn't about laws. It is about politics. Why would you use one as a pretext for impeachment? Why not impeach because you hate him? Wouldn't that be more honest? By the way you can't even imagine what a small minority I fall into regarding politics and government. I'm used to that.
Impeachment is about power, not politics. I don't know about you, but I'm not seeing the hatred. What I'm seeing is deadly insurrection and attempted extortion of a foreign government, both for personal political gain. Ironic, huh? Seeing hatred where none exists is seeing things in terms of emotion rather than reason. Claiming hatred as a diversion from the real issues which are independent of simple emotion, is not being honest.
I don' think Trumpism is dead, it is alive and well. It just took a break for a couple of weeks after now infamous 1/6. What happened since then: The RW media have convinced their viewers and themselves that: -1/6 didn't really happen -oe, if it did, they were just a bunch of innocent tourists taking selfies in the Capitol -or, if they weren't, they were really either Antifa, or egged on by Antifa -or, if they weren't, none of it was Trump's fault. There, it is safe to retreat back into the Trump fan club cocoon and pretend 1/6 never happened and continue with supporting the QAnon and conspiracy theory candidates who are good at regurgitating RW memes and talking points. As long as RW media doesn't change, none of this will change. RW media is like a drug that, unfortunately, a sizable minority of the country is addicted to.
I don't disagree with any of this, but I think it's temporary. I'm looking forward. The trial is happening in ten days. Probably one of the reasons for the visit. RW Republicans have complained about Biden ruling over us like a dictator with the pen. (Jen Psaki handled such a "dictator" question yesterday with class and ease.) In reality, Biden has been brilliant in that ten days from now, Democrats will enter the trial having successfully reversed the previous admin's EO's, while having confirmed key cabinet positions. Nothing good for RW Republicans can happen from this trial. After that, all the other liabilities take hold. Trump will be held to account, not the least by his creditors. Giuliani is in trouble. QAnon didn't give Georgia two Senate seats. That a crazy district exists which elects QAnon to the House is concerning, but won't reach the level of statewide dominance. And if the Republican Party doesn't get its act together, it won't have a chance at winning a general election or taking control of the Senate. In general you are correct. Oddly enough, Trump is only a symptom of Trumpism. It's a cultural movement. Pun intended. This won't go away. But how much power does Trump really have? IMO, Trump has less power now than he had in 2016, and much less than he would have had if not elected. People have been abandoning the Republican Party since 2017. Tens of thousands have switched party affiliation just since 1/6. There's nothing to indicate this trend changing any time soon. Indeed, if Trump can give Georgia to the Democrats today, he surely can give them Texas in 2024. The trend for Trump is downward. His outlook is grim. And QAnon is never going to be elected to anything after this.
