Still makes no sense. You are probably using the wrong terms. Are you talking about the velocity of money circulating?

There is certainly no "poverty of money" in a free market. Prices simply rise of fall to the market clearing rate. There is no "poverty of money" in most closed markets like that in Venezuela. Its choking on a mountain of worthless money.
Poverty of money is a meaningless term in and of itself and you haven't given it any meaning in this discussion. It rather reminds me of the meaningless language used by Marx in his many economic tracts.

A little clue for you. Companies that don't make money don't stay open. When you work for someone you are part of their team. If that team does well the company makes a profit. If that company is profitable, you are much more likely to retain your job and possibly work yourself into a position where you can demand more compensation for your efforts. If that company is not profitable you won't have to worry about it. You will not have a job.

Not European. And the employer in your scenario is paying $2.

There is absolutely no way you don't know that $2 an hour for staff that make tips IE waitresses, bartenders, valets, etc is standard across America for millions of people. I was a bartender in college and I lived very well.

What we should be asking is how many waitresses across that state loss their job have no other meaningful skill sets and are now on unemployment or other subsidy because they can't find work? Or maybe they are taking school loans out to learn a new skill set that no one can afford to pay back when they start their new career?

Including serving staff in that minimum wage increase was beyond retarded.

I wonder if some restaurants owners offered to pay the wage but take say half the tips? That would enable them not to go broke.

Leftists are so beyond ignorant sometimes when they get on soapboxes and write laws that make no sense. Leftisms ideology is 100% based on fantasy, good intentions and little root in reality.

Kind of irrelevant. Tipping is not compulsory salary, it's voluntary and optional.

Only an employer is responsible for salary.

Why is it irrelevant? Do you think they are working for the $2 or for the tips? Or do you think they are just too stupid to understand that the majority of their income comes in the form of tips.

I literally had no idea. I'm not American, and here, wait staff make $25 an hour. Juniors usually make around $20. In higher end restaurants (keep in mind we really only have cafes and independent restaurants here .. not these lowbrow 'chain' places you have in America), senior front of house staff can make double that. ie, $50 per hour.

I'm not sure why you think paying your wait staff reasonable money is unsustainable. We've always done it here, and the businesses are doing fine. If your business can't carry $25 an hour staff, you're doing it wrong.

Different system. Your system charges the tip in the price of the meal. In your system, a lousy waiter makes the same as one who does an stellar job. In our system, the waiters have an incentive to do a good job. In some of the nicer restaurants they easily make over $100 an hour. Your system does make it easier for the government to get their cut. In our system, some do not report all their income.

I noted during my recent visit to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico that as soon as my wife and I walked into the restaurant, the head waiter rushed over and immediately seated us while leaving the Eruo trash waiting in line. People who make their living off tips take care of those who tip.

In that, you're incorrect. Wait staff here do receive tips, just not automatically. When there isn't a 'tipping culture', staff actually have to work extra hard to extract the tips.

I have been to Europe a half dozen times and have never seen anyone who wasn't an American leave a tip. The waiters don't expect them and I guarantee they get very few of them. Actually in Mexico, some Europeans were angered when I left a tip. They said now they will expect it. I said no they earned it.

Different cultures plain and simple. In your culture the tip is included in the price of the meal and people accept that, they don't tip. In our culture, the tip is earned and we pay for service. In reality, I would bet the reason tips are included in the price of the meal in Europe is due to the number of cheapskates who stiffed the waiters.

You haven't been following my arguments. Social services Cost around fourteen dollars an hour. The Only reason to have social services, is due to a poverty of money among the whole and entire, market participating population.

so what; Capitalists cannot "do it themselves".

Who cares if Capitalists who can Only make it on the back of Cheap Labor, become naturally unemployed due to inefficient organizational structure to begin with.

Henry Ford was able to double Autoworker wages, not Merely minimum wages.

Good Capitalists succeed, and lousy capitalists should fail.

Wait staff here DO get tipped, but since there is no tipping culture it's entirely optional. This means only those who really work hard for it, will actually get it. The crappy wait staff usually don't. If you receive a tip here, you've earned it.

It's realy strange, when people from Russia, where prime minister can answer with laugh to question of the teacher "how can i live with salary of 12000 rubles(200 usd) ?" with "you should set up your business if you want greater income" are really worried about poor US and US debt.In Compere with US Russian people are really poor and government treats them like a cattle, so why don't they post articles one after other about poor russians? It's some kind psychologic healing to live in ****, but tell others how bad life is in the other countries?

You mean the people we pay welfare to aren't and there for have no income? A phrase like "Poverty of money" makes it sound as thought they are suffering from some social condition brought on by impersonal outside forces when actually they simply need to find work.

This is a good post. Yep, the thing is that many restaurant chains here mostly serve glorified microwave dinners and are not worth paying people any more than $2 per hr to serve it.

Otoh, there are Japanese steakhouses that shun tips. They can afford to do so because the service, entertainment, and food is pretty good so they are profitable anyway. There are also places where the cheapest dish is like $50. They can afford to charge this because the food is fantastic.

I thought the Russian solution was, "don't worry, the State will solve all problems."

That might work in Venezuela where the economy really is a zero sum game.

Hypothetically and in that alternative, The Dux of Venezuela could simply muster an entire Corp of Agricultural engineers and simply command them to produce what is required for the People.

Socializing costs and getting things done, is what command economies, should Always be good for:
