Mnuchin: U.S. Will Focus Resources on Developing Important Relationship, Trade Deal, Post-Brexit

“While the UK wishes to cut trade deals with both the U.S. and Europe, the EU appears to have more to lose from making a good, quick agreement, as forcing a difficult Brexit process is essential for the bloc to discourage other members from considering leaving.

If Britain can cut a fast deal with the United States, however, it puts Brussels in the equally difficult position of being left behind — so London and Washington working well together will likely encourage the EU to give more ground.

Speaking at Davos, President Trump himself saidBritain under Boris Johnson will “come out great” and that the U.S. is looking forward to “negotiating a tremendous new deal with the United Kingdom.”

For their part, senior British officials are reportedly taking a “hell for leather” approach to the deal, absolutely prioritising the deal alongside others for Australia and New Zealand, one-time major trading partners for the UK which were cut adrift”

This is a great development. I’m glad that President Trump views our positive relationship with the UK in such a strong way. Quite the contrast with Obama who hated the UK and told them they’d be at the back of the line for a trade deal.

 

I think that the common linking of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom in a trade deal is a very good thing for all involved.

I know you’re kidding but for the record we have free trade deals with Columbia, Peru, Chile in South America. I believe we have one with Morocco, Jordan, as well, possibly Malaysia and Indonesia as well.

 

Lets do it!

It’s my understanding that before Trump became President Australia was the most effective western nation at fending off China’s influence internally

 

I see no evidence that the residents there need a developing relationship.

Let them look to New Zealand and learn to speak Cantonese.
