No, I am following it up with what has been taught in our schools since this country was founded.

 

To be honest, I wasn't taught much about how the African nations lived in the 1500's-1600's. I couldn't tell you how they lived and operated. We were just taught about the logistics of the horrible slave trade. Africa traded their own people to Europeans as slaves, in exchange for goods. It's a sad truth that both these nations/continents decided to do that.

 

We were taught black folks were swinging around in the trees with bones in our noses.
We grew up with shows like Tarzan, were a white man came to Africa and was the baddest MF in the jungle.

I couldn't either because we were basterdized from our history.

See the shackles were taken off the hands and feet, but not off of our minds. We were taught white is good and black is bad. Think about the early western the good cowboy wore white the bad one wore black. Angel food cake is white, Devil's food cake is black. It's ok to tell a little white lie, but not a black one. This movie satirizes “post-racial” America as black students navigate a predominantly white Ivy League college and it's meant to be funny. But what I find strange is that all characters are played by black actors, as if there are no white people in this world, just like other black movies in Hollywood.
