Welp, its been about a year and half since Canada's Prime Minister told his subjects "You can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada. It’s not a right that you have." And he's technically right. Self defense isn't a valid reason to apply for a gun permit in Canada and handguns/pistols are banned for all but the elites. Now, or a few days ago, the police in Toronto are handing out doorstops to citizens and advising them to leave their carkeys somewhere that criminals can easily find them to steal their cars. The cited reason is because these criminals tend to be carrying illegal guns, and its better to have your car stolen than get shot by a home invader. Toronto Police Service Constable Marco Ricciard said in a statement to the community: "To prevent the possibility of being attacked in your home, leave your fobs at your front door, cause they're breaking into your home to steal your car, they don't want anything else. A lot of them that they’re arresting have guns on them and they’re not toy guns, they're real guns. They’re loaded." Criminals don't tend to kick in the door of homes where people are known to be armed and might shoot them. Fortunately for criminals, that just isn't likely in Canada. You would think it should actually piss off the anti-gun boot lickers that their betters have so decreed that they have no right to defend their life with the same exact tool that they enjoy. I don't understand how any person could not be angry that they are being told that their life is not as important as the lives of officials. Screw all of that noise. Just because your ass managed to get elected or hold some position of power does not mean that your life is any more valuable than my life or the life of my loved ones friends and family.
Homes are 'known' to contain armed residents where I live. Doesnt mean everyone is armed. But it substantially increases the risk to home invaders, because they don't know. And our break-ins are low (I don't actually know of it having happened).
