More than disappointing to see how Republican candidates are responding to Trump Indictment no. 2

I get it that we are a divided society, with dangerous fringes on both sides.

I get it that people have strong opinions. In fact, I cherish people having strong opinions.

I get it that people can become angry when they feel slighted or don't get what they want, especially in over-coddled America.

I don't get why so many Republicans literally hate the rule of law.

This second indictment of Trump, this time a federal indictment, focused on 7 major rubriks and quoting 8 laws out of 18 U.S.C., appears to rely heavily on the Espionage act.

BTW, here is all of 18 U.S.C:

    U.S. Code: Title 18 | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute (cornell.edu)

Let's just consider what heavy **** that is, right there. This is not little league stuff, this is some truly serious ****. And I cannot imagine one single person, who (at least in private) should not be shocked and taken aback by these things.

However, instead, Republican lawmakers are lining up behind Trump and other (R) Presidential Candidates are promising him a pardon. That is just plain old disgusting and very sad.

It's sad for a number of reasons, but I am going to present to you all a reason I have not heard anyone speak of. Yes, it is summized that those (R) Presidential candidates who are not named Trump actually hate his guts and would throw a party were he to a.) leave the race, b.) drop dead or c.) go to jail, but they are terrified to say anything that irritates "his base". Just for the record, I don't want anyone to drop dead, I wish every person a long and fullfilling life.

I see the issue totally differently. I think that those Republican lawmakers and (R) Presidential candidates who are not named Trump quite literally hate Trump voters and think that those Trumpers are too stupid to discern between one thing and the next. I think they hate their "base" far more than most Democrats are irritated at the ignorance of many Trumpers.

Don't those Republican lawmakers realize that voters can be educated, swayed, convinced to do something else than to pledge eternal allegiance to criminal defendant Donald Trump?

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with some people?

Let's go through this, step by step.

    Our government has 3 branches:
    -the legislative
    -the executive
    and
    -the judicial

That is the order in which the three branches are layed out in the US Constitution.

The DOJ belongs to the judicial branch, not to the executive. Merrick Garland does not take orders from Joe Biden.

Biden did not indict Trump. Merrick Garland did not indict Trump. Even Jack Smith did not indict Trump. Rather, a jury of his peers in southern Florida indicted him of multiple crimes which in sum total, if convicted, could result in 100 years in prison, which leads me back to the point that this is some serious **** and may get even worse, for in the discovery process, some details may come out that make this all the worse for Trump, not better.

Raswamy, a Republican who has a snowball's chance in hell at getting nominated but who wants to talk loudly and brashly so as to get some attention, just said on CNN that Jack Smith's case should be thrown out before Tuesday since Jack Smith did not reference the Presidential Records Act first, as if that is somehow a pre-requisite. Hint: Raswamy is an ass with no legal experience (he majored in the Arts at Harvard, not law), while Jack Smith put Serbidan Milosevic behind bars.

Logic would dictate that Trump is innocent until proven guilty, but he has lied so many times in his life and now these lies are going to catch up with him.

And all those Republicans who just love him so much in public but yet hate his guts in private, they will be left with a destroyed, totally disfunctional political party that is no longer viable, all because of that man's insatiable ego.

As a Democrat, I should be delighting in all of this, and yet I am not. It really is saddening to see a former President get indicted for crimes and worse yet, this 2nd indictment is surely not the last indictment.

In five years, when every Republican in the land will try their best to not utter the name Donald Trump, I am going to remind them over and over and over again of their utter folly in 2023.

Republicans have a golden opportunity right now to send that man a message in no uncertain terms: that he is going to get ditched and it's time to the GOP to move on. But unfortunately, like moths to the light they just keep gravitating back to their dear cult leader.

    It's sad.

Sorry, but candidates for prez are decided in the mid term elections, not by DoJ.

I would say that the DOJ probably disagrees with that. We are at a stage where we care less how the votes went than whether or not we can believe them in the first place. That is a situation ripe for government corruption.

    @Statistikhengst

"a jury of his peers in southern Florida indicted him of multiple crimes" A grand jury is only fed a one sided version by the prosecutor... with exculpatory evidence left out and no representation by the accused or cross examination. "discovery" will be interesting.....presenting the fact to the grand jury would have been interesting because.....

the jury does not have security clearance to look at the documents and evidence that will be used in the case....even the defense will likely not have security clearance to look at the documents and evidence that will be used in the case..... so this whole case will be in a shroud of darkness as the prosecutor is the only one seeing the evidence. I can't think of a case where the defense can't see the evidence?

That's the case for EVERY grand jury.
