It seems like it has totally slipped main stream media that the Tesla Y is now the highest sales volume new car in the world!

How come they haven't noticed that a US corporation has taken that level of leadership in the world of transportation?

It IS reported in some (but not all) special interest publications.

Clearly this is especially interesting when one considers the numerous doom and gloom stories about the failure or impending failure of the very idea of EVs.

Are these stories actually written by oil interests?

Are mainstream outlets finding in hard to switch from doom and gloom to an American success story?

What the heck is going on?

Yes, I don't have a link, as the issue is the stories that DON'T EXIST!

EV are fine for certain purposes but we don't like the government banning gas cars because EVs are not good for everything.

But I guess being against bans on gas means you hate EV...

it's you guys on the left that hate Tesla since he destroyed your little Monopoly on Twitter.

Maybe all the liberals will start selling their little electric cars with his name on them?

I hope that's not the answer, but ...

I HAVE heard that some are buying EVs that are just as expensive but not as good as Tesla on the grounds that they hate Musk. So, I guess some must simply not be buying.

I can read in the press about all sorts of things that the left doesn't like or the right doesn't like, or nobody likes. The press are supposed to be above dodging serious issues.

And, this is serious. The industry shakeup that is happening has broad ramifications. It means something to the parts industry, to the business model (as Toyota says they are moving to the Tesla sales model - direct to customers vs dealerships), to factory automation, to manufacturers who depend on large sales volume.

Really, It IS a major story that an EV is the most purchased new car after years of prognostication that they are dying out.

That will be interesting to see if dealerships go away...

I kind of thought it an inevitable of policy. The pricing is becoming more feasible and the cost of gas cars are going up as manufacturers slow down the manufacture of them. Then you have more things to fail in a gas car.

Ford was a MAJOR league ****** as well.

We buy stuff from Walmart, Amazon, and many other companies where the leadership may be good at getting people's dollars, but otherwise are seriously objectionable.

Remember Walmart having bins where one could donate to store employees who couldn't live on their pay? Yet, people shop there! (Not me.)

@WillReadmore maybe you don't have a link because Tesla is not actually the best selling new car of 2023 in the United States. It's actually number four on the list.

The information is readily available on Google. Where did you hear the claim that it's the number one car?

    https://www.powernationtv.com/post/25-best-selling-vehicles-of-2023

Here's the list of top-selling vehicles to date in 2023, from 25th to 1st place.
    08 - Nissan Rogue – 147,745.
    07 - Toyota Camry - 150,742.
    06 - Honda CR-V – 163,697.
    05 - Toyota RAV4 - 187,017.
    04 - Tesla Model Y - 190,500.
    03 - Ram 1500 - 223,049.
    02 - Chevrolet Silverado - 264,070.
    01 - Ford F-150 – 382,893.

I understand that Ford doesn't use dealerships in Europe.

Ford's CEO says he wants to do that in the US, too, but there is no realistic way for that to happen. Dealerships have contracts and Ford needs them to do their service work. Also, there are laws against direct to customer sales when there are dealerships.

You ARE joking yes? Damn! That explains why we have no “Walmarts” in Aus. We would have tarred and feathered the management - at least!!

    I quoted for the world.

Also, I specified cars. All three models with higher US sales than Tesla Y are trucks.

Even in the USA, Tesla model Y beats out all cars.

I realize that the USA has a concept of light vehicles, which includes cars and light duty trucks, such as the Ford F series.

I was looking at a video of the best new electric dirt bike on the market that produces 80 horsepower which is pretty respectable for any dirt bike.

You won't catch me going to the bank to get 12 grand for one tomorrow but if anyone wants to buy me one I will review it.

In the USA, most hydrogen is created by using major energy to heat fossil fuel to the point that hydrogen is broken from carbon and other compounds.

The result is CO and CO2 plus the hydrogen.

Using that hydrogen in cars at least doesn't emit pollution in neighborhoods, but it can not be thought of as clean from a greenhouse gas point of view.

Another source of hydrogen is using solar cells to create energy to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water. That's clean, but not much of a source for hydrogen in the USA, though perhaps increasing.

You have peaked my curiosity so I went and did a little bit more research on the topic.

At least according to Auto week he is inflating the numbers by including other models in the total.
But to be fair I don't think this includes information up to the end of this year but only the first quarter

I think more people should be focusing on electric motorcycles. The power to weight ratio is much more efficient.
I'm sure the batteries can have a much greater service life pushing around 3 to 600 lb of vehicle instead of having to propel 2,000 plus pounds.

There are some models available but they want more money than a traditional ice engine. Until that cost can go below conventional, I'm not in the market but I do keep a curious eye on the developments.
