Ok, let us look at an issue of great importance… WATER. https://www.theguardian.com/austral...e-fish-dead-in-second-murray-darling-incident No matter what side of politics you’re on, NOBODY can claim one is better than another. This happened due to DECADES of bad management. This article talks more and should be read. Anybody who has been paying attention here will know that the Murry, Murrumbidgee and the darling are now suffering from Blue-Green Algae outbreaks and several areas have reported E.coli readings. Now many are blaming the farmers (especially the irrigation farmers) for lobbying the government and stealing water. The fact is, farmers who lives are dependent on the farming are the best environmentalist because they know to live they have to use sustainable methods. Unfortunately, it is the big investment farms growing water dependant crops that are the culprits here. Huge money to lobby governments and so on. I noted that one farmer said to me that when one of these big cotton farms turns their pumps on the river runs backwards. That is just destroying the river, no matter who you are, when the river runs revers to it’s natural direction it is taking from nature. Anyway, Australia has huge water problems, Not just drought but extremely poor and possibly corrupt water management. Poor water quality and many people who are now back to the turn of the middle ages and carting their drinking water from distance. A thought, the government could run these desalinisation plants sitting idle, bottle the water and cart bulk to the people who are in absolute desperation instead of waiting for dams to level out. I know it is expensive, but they stuffed it up now and people are suffering, instead of just ignoring everybody they should be trying to help them and fix the problem. Just why do the government think they can procrastinate on this issue, and why do the parties want to play politics. NONE of them have been any good at managing Australia’s water. Perhaps they could make it before people die from thirst???
Well I think this is shameful... Australia is always first on it's high horse to tell others how it is on the environment or whale hunting etc and now this....it is devastating. The Murray Darling is a national treasure.
That is the issue, How can water management be so corrupted??? I don't think we can simply blame Cubbie, although I do think they should be prosecuted or persecuted over their complete lack of environmental concern over the river systems. Simply put, as I allude, farmers in this nation are the best environmentalist in this nation. They understand the need for long term sustainable farming practices for the future of their income and their life. Cubbie station is clear example of business raping the land to maximise profits while leaching the wealth from the ground and now clearly the water. Let us not blame the wrong people for this entire issue… These politicians allow such catastrophic actions to take place, where the results come to fruition long after they have left office and spend the proceeds of their complete lack of concern, not just for propriety and environment but the nation they live in. We should not be hung up lack of water but the quality of the water we have in the systems as well. Blue green algae and other contaminates sullying the rivers of this nation, Sewage found, just how can the government justify contaminating water systems with human waste??? Lots of areas just so wrong here and need addressing. We should not let this current lot or the next to get away with the gross corruption of Australians natural resources…
And I think it is shameful that the government will put a band aid over the huge abscise and claim it is fixed. Just how long will it be before the rivers are simply poisonous quagmires??? Governments dictating constantly to farmers on how the water system needs to be treated, when all the time they are creating policy to placate the business not the nation… How can anyone trust just one of these clowns.
Well they won't be able to claim it's fixed This just in Fears of another mass fish kill at Menindee as local man finds 'thousands' of floating bream https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01...-kill-as-photos-emerge-of-dead-bream/10755004 the problem is this blue green algae does not just kill fish, it contains a neurotoxin called BMAA Beta-Methylamino-L-alanine, that contributes to motor neuron disease. I've read previously BMAA ingested by animals or water containing BMAA sprayed on crops can be transferred to humans. This means that the food sprayed with this water may well be contaminated with BMAA and dangerous to humans. https://theconversation.com/toxin-l...isease-found-in-australian-algal-blooms-95646 https://www.researchgate.net/public...b-N-methylamino-L-alanine_BMAA_via_irrigation
Now that is interesting, I always wondered about third hand contamination. Sounds like a very interesting avenue to pursue, especially as the rise in motor neuron disease in Australia and possibly around the world (I assume). But I bet they do try to claim they fixed the issues, they already are trying to water down their complicity in this while running as far as possible from the problems... Nice find their Sally, maybe the more we can show the faster word will travel...
Warnings of towns being shut or losing drinking water over implementing Murray Darling Basin report Shut the towns or kill the river.... to me this is a no-brainer... if the river dies won't these towns die anyway.. The river system must take priority https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02...urray-darling-basin-royal-commission/10768818
Honestly, there are major problems with the south Australian report. I agree with much of what was said BUT there is much that discredits the report as well. Statements of illegal policy that has passed the high court challenges means that the report is based upon opinion. This provides the avenue for bias to be painted. Being a SA report it has already got the shadow over it this is simply another fuel to allow government to continue (as they appear to be doing) That being said, you comment is spot on. We should not be concerned with flowing water to the Cotton Growers and farmers before the people who need it to survive. I also think that ALL have to take notice of the report as clearly the rivers can no longer be ignored. The damage has become too big to hide under the cloud of political savvy. Hanson-young trying to score political points from the issue only helps to hide the truth due to the fact the Greens all too often like to pretend they stand up for the environment when they were one of the parties to pass this legislation. Don’t now stand up for political expediency when you are part of the problem… People cannot let governments forget this and make them act for the better. NSW talks about an independent body to investigate corruption. I wonder just how far they will be allow to go??? I am cynical about this, but I think it is time corruption is addressed directly with court action not just the “take a back seat until everybody forgets.”
