in my neighborhood where I grew up, Orthodox Jews used to shut down a street several times a year, to dance for religious holidays.
It does bother me...partially because it is religious action effecting public space, partially because it is Islamic (Which I find to be the least acceptable of them all). Go ahead and pray to whatever invisible big ass rabbit you choose, but do not do it where I need to be. These are the same people who biatch about everyone else eating bacon...but, we pig eaters do not close the sidewalk in front of a mosque to open a rib stand....maybe we should?
If case you didn't notice there is winking icon in my reply. I am sure St. Paddy did not literally throw the snakes out, but I doubt that anyone actually believes that anyway. The legend has been around for 1600 years. Still, it curious that Ireland has no snakes.
OMG....reality intrudes into the Redneck alternate reality.... That's SO awful! Ain't we a Theocracy? Only YOUR religion got rights?
Leprechauns wouldn't never eat snake soup; and who said they were extinct? Just because you can't see them . . .
What a disaster; the world must surely be approaching its end when a few people are mildly inconvenienced for a few minutes. Please god make it stop!
WITHOUT A PERMIT? How dare they, I'm absolutely outraged; those criminals deserve at least a life sentence!
Cmon now.....if the other people at the end of the block want to have a block party and we do. Who needs a piece of paper. Its Chicago. .....
The streets are CLOSED because of these asshats. It's not a special religious holiday, it's simply a way to push this in eveyone's face and to recruit more asshats.
no, they have a permit to close the street, just like any other festival, march, or protest, or street fair.
way to be overly dramatic for attention... here is a piece of candy... better now? I'm not trying to make it the crime of a century... I'm trying to point out the difference in what society is willing to challenge and not challenge... we see christians constantly being challenged and pushed back, while muslims are often ignored and nobody wants to confront them... is this because of a societal shift towards muslims and away from christianity... is it merely a knocking down of the big guy to support the little guy... or is this is a genuine fear of muslims and not wanting to rock the boat? we see in politics how some politicians are treated versus others... basically some are challenged on every little thing they say, while others get a pass and an excuse for often saying the exact same thing... you know that whole equality of treatment... what I see now, is people are almost afraid to challenge muslims in america, but they feel very empowered to push christians back without consequence... I think thats very interesting... perhaps maybe you could add something to the conversation, instead of just snarky comments to hear yourself speak... if you don't have anything to add, thats okay, maybe just don't bother replying then hey?
they took over one street for a few minutes, to pray. what's the problem? Catholics take over 5th Ave in NYC for an entire day for St. Patricks Day.
