1. Oregon 2. Alabama 3. Florida State 4. Oklahoma 5. Auburn 6. LSU 7. Georgia 8. Baylor 9. Texas A&M 10. USC Also Receiving Consideration: UCLA, Ole Miss, Notre Dame
I am never a big fan of moving one undefeated team above another. Judging that Oregon had to play a good team and didn't break it open until late, vs FSU playing a cream puff that was arguably trying to injure the starters, so they pulled the starters out instead of running up the score.... Beyond that.... keep the undefeated where they started preseason until they get beat. It'll sort itself out. side note..... BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAH at Ohio State
notre dame, though...... time will tell. Beating the brakes off a crappy Mich does not impress me to think they are really that good. ND still has a lot of good games to go.
It's early in the season. Do you have a problem with UCLA slipping in the polls? If a Top 10 team has problems squeaking past unranked opponents, then I see no problem with reassessing their initial seeding. If they improve and continue to win, then they'll move back up in the rankings. Among the top 3 teams, Oregon currently has the most impressive win by far. That will change over time as Alabama and Florida State face Top 10 opponents. FSU has been unimpressive thus far. Oklahoma State almost upset the Seminoles in their opener, and the Cowboys weren't very impressive in their win over Missouri State last Saturday. You can make all the excuses you like for FSU's lackluster performance against the Citadel, but I was once again not impressed. As for Notre Dame, they've looked about as good as has any other top 15 team, in my opinion. As you said, they have some good quality games coming up. Will you be impressed if they beat the brakes off of Florida State?
you define it as "lackluster" but if you paid attention, you'd see FSU played 14 players who saw their first action ever on the field. Not to mention other non-starters in the 2nd half. The Citadel was targetting knees of starters so to protect ourselves, we took starters out. so "struggling" is pretty subjective. Jameis went 25/27. Hardly lackluster now, had it came down to the last minute of the game for FSU to win... that's different. Think Nebraska surviving arkansas state, or whoever they played. Oklahoma state.... noone has any clue how good they really are. For all either of us know, that's the future Big xII champs there. I didn't see UCLA game/score. My top 5 are the same as preseason. There won't be 4 undefeated teams in the playoffs. So flipflopping 1/2 over how they played in one week
Why not post your personal rankings? You're welcome to post them in my Top 10 threads -- even if we disagree.
I think I did, didn't I? I'm not sure. Personally, I think you should start where you finish the previous season 1. FSU 2. AU 3. mich state I think 4. Oregon Beyond that.... minus MSU losing this past weekend.... I don't see why FSU and AU should be down any. Move Oregon to 3, and go from there. As teams lose, teams move up. The moment FSU loses, then move them down. at this point, they are the defending champs, and noone has knocked them off.
Yes, I understand your logic, although I disagree with it. It would make sense if there were no turnover in coaches and players from one year to the next. That is not the case -- especially in CFB. I do view the final poll from the previous year as a valid starting point in seeding a preseason ranking. From there, I consider which key players were lost to graduation or to an early exit for the NFL draft. I also consider the recruiting class and how well teams perform regarding basic fundamentals in Spring scrimmages. Coaching staff changes also have to be taken into consideration. At any rate, any preseason ranking represents an educated guess at best. This doesn't matter much, so long as you are at least in the ballpark with your guesses, because the ranking will shift with each passing week based upon the performance of the ranked teams. Your argument is that weekly performance should be arbitrarily ignored. You never answered my question about UCLA. I had them ranked #7 in my preseason ranking. Can you see how their lackluster performance has led to their being dropped from my Top 10 list? Perhaps you can, since you aren't biased toward that particular team?
but that's all subjective..... FSU lost their starting qb that was a first round draft pic between the 2012-2013 season, yet got BETTER Meanwhile, OSU was preseason ranked based on having Braxton Miller, who they lost before the first game was played at least with a start where you finish, you can build something,
Yes, it's subjective. It is an opinion poll. What's your point? Is your "objective" solution to simply freeze the rankings permanently in place at the precise moment at which your favorite team achieves a subjective #1 ranking? That appears to be your position.
I just don't see how when Oregon hasn't played FSU, you can just flip flop them. Heck, Bama barely wins and you have them jump FSU and yet, FSU has won 19 straight. Playing 3rd and 4th teamers instead of running up the score seems like a pretty subjective reason why you drop FSU.
I'll move them back up in my ranking when (if?) they produce a significant victory over a quality opponent. The season is long.
What you're implying here is that you really don't follow college football. BTW: I didn't have Bama "jump FSU" in this week's rankings. Bama stayed right where they were. Oregon "jumped FSU".
you have Bama at #2, and FSU at #3 ' I missed UCLA game. Who did they play. An ACC team, wasn't it? or was that Week 1 This past weekend was a busy Saturday for me. 2 youth football games, a bday party, a 2nd bday party, and then I watched the FSU game. Heard OSU and MSU lost, and that UF won. UCLA.... I didn't see. Either way, so long as they won... no need to move them around.
I've had Bama at #2 since preseason. You don't have to watch every game to know what has happened. UCLA opened against Virginia. It's not just that Virginia had a bad season last year. Auburn had a terrible season in 2012. Virginia hasn't had a decent season in recent history. They are an ACC doormat with poor recruiting and a lackluster coaching staff and yet, they played UCLA to a close 28-20 finish. Then UCLA squeaked past Memphis 42-35. That's why they dropped in my rankings. There were other undefeated teams with more impressive results. Oregon and FSU swapped places in my rankings this week, but that could change on any given week, depending upon what happens on the field. Florida State has Notre Dame, Louisville and Florida coming up. They'll have their chances to prove whether they deserve a #1 ranking. At any rate, the only thing that really matters this year is being one of the 4 best teams at the end of the season.
did you have FSU #1, preseason... if you did, you dropped them below bama It's whatever.... doesn't matter where you have them.... they are still #1, and as long as they go undefeated... they make the playoffs. If they don't go undefeated, it doesn't really matter. I'm worried about Louisville right now. Notre Dame..... I just don't know if they are that good, or Mich is just that bad.... We'll see in Tally.
Yes, we'll see much more about which teams are truly good as the season progresses. My guesses aren't always right, but I'm putting them out here anyway. You're welcome to add your own Top 10 list to the thread every week. We'll see who guessed best!
