Nobody else can be punished for my wrongdoings, or else it is no punishment at all, only a senseless torment. The idea that someone else can be punished for what you did wrong lies at the centre of Christian theology, being the purpose of the crucifixion, and I rarely see anyone bring this up in discussion. In fact, a judge that chooses to torment another as a response to your crimes may as well not deal any conviction, because the very concept of conviction is cheapened if conviction is dealt out easily and forgotten immediately. This judge could merely choose not to torment the other party, but they have done it anyway. Even assuming that the events depicted in the bible actually took place, Jesus died for nobody's sins, he killed himself because he chose to.
