There is no guarantee that anyone would have control of any situation but it is called preparing for the worst so you chances are better than the unprepared which means a simple advantage that increases your odds of survival. A weapon, whether it be a knife or a gun is simply a force equalizer. You do give a glimpse into your psyche with your statement in quotes.

I don't see any evidence of the attempted rape victim trying to be macho or a hero. That is a pretty sick perception you have.

How did the attempted rape victim loose control? Once again that is a pretty sick perception you have of this event.

There's a steaming pile of hate BS. This thread is a crock fom the start with it's sad reference to a gun-shill fantasy which never happens. there are no people crying "The police will save me!" it's a silly strawman argument from the off. (and it's so far off, it stinks)

There are a lot of people who think an individual does not need, should not have the right to a gun for self defense because it is the job of the police to have the guns and protect the public.

Your overwrought presentation not with, as they say, standing.

And have I EVER said that?

I have not - and have repeatedly until I my fingers are bleeding, posted that I DO NOT CARE IF YOU OWN A GUN OR NOT!!!

BUT there are are a LOT of myths - mostly perpetrated by "internet warriors" about guns which are almost predominantly coming from America - it is THOSE myths and not the gun ownership itself - that I want to overturn

Then, if you care not, why irritate us with all these fact and figures, ad homs, and strawmen?
I don't own because of some alleged myth. I own because I have the Right. My Right is no myth. It is a fact. ..and yes, it can be that simple...
    Will you concede that much?
By the way, it is important for you to know this...I owned guns Loooong before the internet became a reality.

Interesting, so far two people have replied with me as the poster to something Bowerbird posted. What is happening is that the end [/QUOTE] is not being applied. I just had to change this one because stjames post came up as Bowerbird.

This myth is a very popular fantasy however, which is embraced by 60% of the US population, and in ever greater proportions by the rest of the world.

Where I live, the local police officers sponsor and teach self defense shooting classes, wherein they explain that anyone who wants to invade your home can do so, and there is nothing the local PD can do to prevent it.

Home invasions are the fastest growing crimes in our area right now, or so the LEOs here tell us.

This is the perception I have gained from posting over many years

And if you read through the responses on this board then you can see why the perception of these myths is coming through

    1. Need a gun for self defence in the home - evidence of "myth status" - repeated postings on this forum of news articles highlighting how "brave person shot intruder" and I have shown repeatedly how this is NOT a common news article outside the USA. It is a phenomena common in the USA and virtually unique to the USA

    2. Again the Mantra of "Guns don't kill people - people kill people" is VERY unique to the USA having been introduced and supported by the NRA. Again outside the USA people have heard of this slogan but treat it like what it is - a meaningless meme

    3. That guns do not ensure freedoms - again it is difficult to find this repeated outside the USA and probably because it is tied to the second amendment, which is unique to you

Yes it is difficult to quantify these but then - what quantitive analysis have I been offered by anyone posting on this or any of the other gun threads?? Many here seem adept at screaming "proof" but when I post it they either launch personal attacks or simply dismiss it out of hand

Very very poor debating techniques - hence my frustration at personal attacks such as "overwrought"

BTW I have reached the end of tolerance and will be reporting

Only you, and you alone, have presented such myths. I can prove your statements are lies, therefore all you post comes under a very critical eye. Since I can prove what say, I will have no problem presenting any moderator in here, your statements, particularly the statement about changing people. First you claim that you had changed lives/opinions to all you challenged, then several posts later, you claim you never said that. I have challenged you to present one person who's changed their position about firearms. You have failed to produce one. Then you make a claim that you never stated such a thing. Another deliberate misleading statement and I can prove that as well. One statement is an outright lie, #1"those I challenged, I've changed. #2 "I never made such a claim." I have shown both statements to be totally in error, which you've had ample opportunity to recant, but have failed.
That proves your technique for debate is based on misdirection and misrepresenting the facts to make yourself appear righteous.
You create scenarios out of thin air and demand that we give credit where none exists. That is called the Hegelian Theory of debate. You have stated that some in here don't get it when you move the goal posts while creating those mythological scenarios.
You claim that you are not directing you attention on America, yet you mention no other country in any of your posts, except of course, when you mention your own country. That is your third deliberate misrepresentation/lie.
And now, you are going to start reporting people who call you out when you do this? How droll....... stomping your feet will not correct your bad behavior. That is called Munchhausen's Syndrome.
We've even said that we get your point, but that doesn't mean we agree with it. You keep trying to shove the lies and rhetoric down our throats as if it came from God himself. We remain unconvinced of your facts and sincerity.
And now you are going to attempt to manipulate the mods to support your false statements by threatening to report us.
On at least two occassions you have claimed victory where there was no conflict. I also have those posts saved for mod perusal. In other words, I have my azz covered.
You should be more careful of the things you say/write because you will probably eat them later.
