The real problem is that Congress doesn't get around to funding something until it bites them in the A$$!!! It's not a question of IF an Asteroid will impact the Earth it is actually a question of WHEN. It has happened many times in the past...it will happen again...unless we stop it from happening which we can do....IF....we detect it in time. AboveAlpha
Oh, well this would be one of the thankless number crunching projects that is boring in the public eye, but that would continue to benefit future generations.

For some reason I'm not brave enough to contact the government representatives in Congress and the White House about this issue. I mean they'll probably just shut down the government in an effort to defund Planned Parenthood. They're not looking for things to spend money on.
Right now it's just a waste of time. The U.S. and Canadian Economies are POISED TO BOOM!!! Interest rates are low....energy cost and gasoline prices are WAY DOWN....as it is only $1.99 a Gallon of Gasoline where I live right now!!! EVERYTHING....is ready for the U.S. and Canadian Economies to EXPLODE!! When that happens then perhaps someone might listen about the NEA....Near Earth Asteroid Program. AboveAlpha
Well, I hope you're right, but I've seen that housing prices have gone up again to pre-recession levels but wages have not risen. Meanwhile new home owners are taking on loads of debt for bigger houses. So, I don't see where people have the extra money to spend to make an economic boom. Well, at least they'll fund that warp drive research.... Right? Maybe.
There will be a host of new Tech. driven jobs and when Energy Prices are as low as they are now there usually is Economic Growth. AboveAlpha
I just saw a news article today about the EMDrive. What relates it to this topic is that I noticed they mentioned warp drive/bubble talk hidden in there. Yahoo News/Finance: Explaining EmDrive, the ‘physics-defying’ thruster even NASA is puzzled over That's Roger Shawyer the designer of the EMDrive. So then I wondered if this EMDrive was the tip of the iceberg as a lead in into warp drive tech. So now that a little piece of this is in the public consciousness why not go all the way? Well, anyway, it was something I saw that interested me.
There is a Dr. White who is currently running the NASA Advanced Propulsion System Project at NASA. Some of the things they are doing are Top Secret and Classified and Compartmentalized to a point everyone working on this project must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. AboveAlpha
Speaking of NASA. I heard they were looking for a programmer to work on their Voyager space probe. They were looking for someone to work in Assembly and Fortran. I heard they would offer 6-months to a year of training to get that person off the ground. I was thinking about looking into that, but then I got cold feet. Not only is it a big step, but the first item on the agenda is trying to measure the power requirements of the instruments and I don't have an engineering degree to know about doing that. Oh well, I'm sure they will find someone qualified to do that.
By the way. I know anything we can think of right now is pure speculation. Even you couldn't pull any favors with friends to get an insight, or so I heard. Why, there might even be extraterrestrial intelligence at work when you get to this level of stuff.
I learned Basic and Fortran back in 1981. I never did much more with Computer Science as it was just so boring writing line after line of code. Canada's like the U.S. economy has grown too large to be on a Gold Standard. At any given time there is $3.5 to $5 Trillion worth of U.S. Currency in the world. The amount of gold that has ever been mined is far less than this amount. AboveAlpha
