NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO was increasing its presence among eastern European states adding that "this is only the beginning."
"We are implementing the biggest reinforcement of our collective defense since the end of the Cold War," Stoltenberg said at the Washington, DC NATO Transformation Seminar.
NATO is increasing its presence among eastern European allied countries, he noted, adding that the alliance is setting up command units in six countries in its east.

How much proudness sounds in this statement. It's just as if he'd said "This world is ours at last". And what did he mean saying about the beginning? Beginning of what.. New wave of US expansion. Why can't they understand that it's the beginning of the end... At least of NATO. NATO makes Hitler's steps to conquer the world and his mistakes too...

Stoltenberg was in Washington, DC for three days recently, and Obama refused to meet him. Obama is the first US president to refuse to meet with the NATO Secty. General.

This is how Bloomberg analysed the snub:

One has to wonder if the snub was to force Nato to increase it's presence in Eastern Europe. Or was it a deception on Obama's part to give the impression he had nothing to do with the increase...and that he was against it.

What we do know is that Merkel and Holland do not want a war in Europe, and are against any increase in arms to Ukraine. We also know that they want to create a European army so as not to be under the thumb of Washington and its insane policies.

And then there's the other possibility. Gen. Breedlove came out with his fantasies about another Russian invasion, something his friend Nuland compliantly agreed with...and she even went so far as to lie to the Foreign Relations committee. It worried the German intelligence officers, and they feared Nato would lose all credibility, so they complained about his sanity to General Jens Stoltenberg.

Could Obama be furious with Stoltenberg for not going along with Breedlove's tales of invasions and such by Russia?

Do not ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence. Paraphrasing Napoleon.

I agree it's all very unclear Jeannette. I find Obama sometimes puzzling. I hope that it was possibly an indirect message to the cold war warriors driving the Ukraine war. But even if it was, they won't listen.

My take is that NATO is slowly fragmenting. But I have to beware of wishful thinking.

Even so, France and Germany are clearly dead set against the US policy in Ukraine and have been ever since it became evident, circa 2008. That is clearly having considerable repercussions at various levels of the alliance.
