NC governor recommends suspending democracy to focus on jobs

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending Congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdue’s proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions. “Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever,” North Carolina GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood said in an email to The Daily Caller. “To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that citizens have to hold politicians accountable: The right to vote.”

No, we are going to dismantle the Democrat party in 2012. Deal with it,

In better days she would have been tarred and feathered, assaulted, then run out of town on a rail, tied naked and bleeding to a coal car.

    Dumb #&%t.

why would it be a surprise when a Democrat advocates suspending the constitution - that is what they practice by other means now anyway.

That was a really stupid proposition. I can't imagine she was actually serious about it.......but if she was, she'd better start thinking about her own re-election.....or perhaps recall...

HAHAHA. She knows the public wants to vote out the crooks and traitors in congress now.

BTW - the simplest way to help americans get jobs is to kick out the 30 million illegals.

She wants to avoid the Obama effect on congress in 2012. We are going to clean house of progressives.

    Wow!

Talk about serious desperation. The Democrats see the internal polls, they know they lose the house further, Senate, and Presidency in 2012.

If this were to happen many Americans would take up arms. It would be a sad day for America.

Congressional Approval Ratings include the Senate Einstein. Furthermore, they are meaningless on a national level as each seat is determined locally. You need to ask people locally on their leaders and no one has done that except in NY where a Democrat seat just went solid Republican.

Your post is not well thought.

When people talk about congress they talk about the house. Republicans have majority so they are hated the most by far especially the **********s who have only a 22% approval rating.

That is not what the polls are asking. You need to educate yourself. They absolutely include the U.S. Senate as part of the "Congress". It's funny how people like you refuse to acknowledge that fact.

The Democratic Party has higher unfavorables than the TEA Party.

As a 2 time past Rotarian president, I think this would stun me and then make me laugh out loud to hear my governor say this.

    Total insanity.

Lost the house in 2008? Im assuming you meant 2010. And no Bush did not beat Al Gore. That was an illegal act of the supreme court appointing a non elected president.

You really do believe this crap. Wow!

Did you know that in each and every recount in Florida, even those done after the elections by Al Gore, Jr.'s standards; Bush won every time?

Oh everyone knows it was just hyperbole her staff is saying.

Well know according to the cite she said it with a straight face and did not say "hey just kidding", she let the remark stand as uttered.

I agree Surfer, your reasoning is sound , the post which you were referencing in your post was clearly not well thought out, and probably from a political neophyte.

The way to determine the likely makeup of the next Congress is to look at the polling of individual Congressman and Senators, and what % of Democrats vs Republican are up for reelection. In '12 it looks so far like the Democrat incumbents are far more unpopular than any prospective challengers, and the Democrats in the Senate are esp vulnerable as in '12 the class of '06 is up for reelection and that class was lopsided Democrat - therefore more targets in an antincumbent year.
